The Observatory includes more than 500+ personnel and is the first of its kind designed to detect and enable forecasting of ecological change at continental scales. **Job Summary** We are currently seeking a **Field Ecologist I-Instrumentation.** This position is in **Denton, TX.** The Field Ecologist is a biological sampling lead that monitors, performs routine maintenance, field calibrations and corrective maintenance on meteorological; CO2, water, and energy flux; and water quality sensors and instrumentation. The Field Ecologist will provide guidance to temporary field crews while working in the field and laboratory. Strong consideration will be given to internal applicants whose current work location is at the Domain office. Limnology experience will be strongly preferred for those outside of the Domain. **Location** The plains of Texas and Oklahoma are home to rolling grasslands, expansive croplands, and more than 10 million head of cattle. In the Southern Plains (Domain 11), agriculture reigns supreme. Understanding how land management decisions and agricultural practices impact ecosystems is key to both maintaining agricultural productivity and protecting native habitats. NEON sites in the Southern Plains Domain are managed from our Denton, TX office. Work Environment and Physical Demands The work involves walking, hiking, prolonged standing, bending, and kneeling. Heavy items, equipment and packs up to 40 pounds, must be lifted and carried on a routine basis. Field work includes exposure to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, rough and variable terrain, toxic plants (e.g., poison ivy, hogweed), stinging and biting insects, and wildlife hazards. Instrument maintenance involves performing work on instrument towers ranging in height from 24 feet to 300 feet, which includes ascending and descending multiple flights of stairs. Driving off-road in 4WD vehicles is required for most field sites. **Work Schedule and Travel** Work schedules are typically 8-10 hours per day but can occasionally be 12+ hours per day, including split shifts (off in the middle of the day), starting before dawn and/or ending after dusk, and weekends depending on the work assignment. The ratio of field to lab work is about 75% field and 25% office and lab duties. Frequent overnight travel (e.g., semi-monthly for 3-4 nights) is required. **Major Responsibilities** + Operate and maintain in-situ meteorological sensors, soil sensors, water quality sensors, data loggers, IRGAs and other gas analyzers used to measure CO2, water, and energy flux at NEON field sites. + Monitor sensor health and status through various computer interface tools (i.e., PuTTY, specific sensor software, SAS, or other visual analytic tools). + Maintain and use proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and safety equipment for working at heights in remote locations (5-point harnesses, ascenders, and self-retracting lifelines, etc.). + Provide training, instruction, and technical guidance to seasonal field personnel. + Perform additional field and lab procedures as assigned. Associate Pastor | Youth Provide pastoral ministry at the campus in the areas of the Gateway Youth ministry. This is a generalist role designed to recruit and develop volunteers, coordinate weekly services, preach and teach, partner closely with Gateway's Central Youth Support Team, and help youth develop an intimate relationship with God. The youth associate pastor leads and manages teams to equip the saints for work in ministry. Success in this role includes finding places for people to serve in various ministry areas, disciplining others, and developing others to serve passionately. Principal Job Responsibilities: * Pastor, oversee, and lead Gateway Youth ministry at the campus. * Develop a culture that reflects the heart of Gateway in youth ministry. * Recruit, onboard, train, and develop the youth volunteer team. * Responsible for preparing sermons and speaking at Wednesday Night services. With supervision, this position books arrestees into jail, inventories property/possessions, completes a search for contraband, to include weapons and drugs, contacts outside assistance, and expedites documentation for processing and/or release, all according to state and federal regulations. Conducts regular inspections for safety violations and hazards. Completes reports as needed. Essential Functions 1. Books arrestees into custody, including fingerprinting, searches, recording and filing standard documentation and forms, photographing the arrestee, conducting property inventories, and assisting with outside contacts. 2. Cares for arrestees during incarceration and releases prisoners from custody according to standard Police Department policies and procedures. Care includes feeding, close supervision, summoning medical assistance as needed, dispensing prescription medication, administering basic first aid, allowing phone calls, and logging visitation by legal counsel, family, etc. 3. Performs arrestee release activities involving accurate completion of necessary documentation and forms for transfer or release and receiving and correctly handling bond money. 4. Performs accurate accounting and dispensing of arrested person's cash. 5. Answers citizen and arrestee questions regarding standard jail operating procedures and processes. 6. Furnishes information for court officials, bail bondsmen, families, attorneys, and other law enforcement personnel. 7. Maintains jail cells, book-in area, and staff area as required by department regulations. 8. Receives, counts, records, and washes all arrestee laundry and food preparation and serving utensils. 9. Assists other areas of the police department with various tasks, including but not limited to, taking lobby walk-in reports, taking phone reports, assisting with various records functions, and phone/lobby support, as required. 10. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position. 11. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position. 12. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work. High school diploma or equivalent. Must pass TLETS access and CJIS awareness course within six (6) months from date of hire. Must pass a Municipal Jailer training class approved by the department and receive Intoxilyzer certification within one (1) year from date of hire or at the earliest available opportunity thereafter. This position requires applicant to pass a full background investigation, including polygraph examination. Due to Criminal Justice Information Security (CJIS) requirements, the candidate must never have been convicted, put on court-ordered community supervision, or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order. Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Deferred Adjudication or Felony Conviction are permanent disqualifiers. Must be in compliance with the department's drug and tattoo policy. Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and credit check. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy. Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, functional assessment screening (Level 1), Titmus vision screening, Ishihara vision screening, and smell test.
