Pros of working at Denny's

My partial Denny's most everyone had been working there over a decade. So close. Kinda family id say

Cons of working at Denny's

No longer got paid for training others. No one held accountable for their job but me bc "I'm far more skilled" yet started people at 16/hr w no experience while I received 16.25/ hr. Side note paid me 16 for more than 6months after coming back off flma. Did not compensate for their mistake. Let go after acknowledging w the dm the low down of how the store was being ran by new gm. Which should have been my opportunity. After 24 years. No one held accountable, do what you want while me the on w pride kept all together. Compromised portion sizes to keep food cost down due to employees eat what they want. Gm takes vacation after one month in critical inspection time. While I had to wait 6 months due to sales and not having anyone do what I do. "Can't afford you to take time off. Anytime your not here customers know, we decline greatly in sales" but no raise. no more paid vacation time for hourly employees. Cut more than half the holiday time and half. Now only 3 holidays. No structure after gm who was w same store more than 30 years. All gossip and politics. Most of equipment not working right or at all half the time. Which I again made sure all food was safe and at temp. Now they don't give a fuck. I would never eat there myself unless I was one working. Poor use of gloves, lack of use. Poor health benefits and took away 401k for hourly employees. Pretty much a savings account w little to no interest. Doesnt match what you put in. Yet pentaliEd if pull from it. manager literally sits in back portioning all shift. No table touches, no assistance on the line in big rushes. Lack of all experience. Yet she gets new gm job after quitting two years prior. Me loyal af. Say they promote within. Only lazynshitty people who can be missed on their current job code. Don't be good at your job. Pay will not be given up on experience. Will never get promoted bc can't afford to take me off line cook position acknowledging the fact that everyone can do nothing. Bc I'm good at what I do, they cannot function on a line period without me. Always worked by myself on weekdays. While later on always two cooks any bc I triple in productivity. Take years off your life. Honestly will pay anyone who will just show up. Doesn't matter if late fucked up on something. Just be there. Very unpresentable to customers and complete smack in the face to ones who truly put in blood sweat and tears. had to work while tried to call off three days in a row. Said just do what you can and push through

Denny's Benefits

Met my wife who was manager. For fired temporarily for it. so love. Again there was a time w great team mentore, and long term teams. for instance while there every cook employeed worked ten plus years together. Had a system of team work respect commodity that will never be seen again anywhere. Read each other w no words needed and just flow. Fun challenging. always wanting to improve performance; had the "it" you just can't teach very fulfilling to providing not just a service but an experience. Thrived to succeed stepped up and grind in the biggest of rushes. Flame hit the pan. Felt accomplished. Loved it. Till it fell apart. Honestly saw me retireing from there at age 66. Would have been them spent 50 years w company. a love passion and joy that will never be replicated again probably anywhere. Greatful to have spent the time there when I did up till. recently when things changed. It's unfortunate to leave an industry that have much more to give the "lack of" can't be apart of or watch my baby die or see lack of effort any way you look at it. Can't bat an eye or turn my head about anything. Or unseen. What has been seen. I did it because it needed to be done. Attitude. Not see it not care or do anything about it without doing it. Bc rt thing to do. Too much pride to watch fall apart and not be allowed or giving the opportunity to do anything about it. It's frustrating and also don't want to get food work ethics and so forth compromised bc around it much you turn into it. Need more OG employees that want or have same traits goals. Have more positive people weed out or get back to the model employees. Breing the standards up and not compromise for nothing. That's how Denny's can be on top for years to come. Yet turning into the others who clearly are unfortunately closing doors one by one. Is Denny's next. Which way will it go. Really could go either way. As time goes by not addressing day to day operations or situations is leaning more towards being like the rest. Act now to reverse before it's to late. There's still a chance. Honestly could be top chain for years to come given that they step their game up starting w hiring process. Get talent it's out here. Build great teams. All he way to management. Lots of restructuring if their going to have a chance. Being back quality workers. Not just anybody. Aces in places. Talent. Can't have "D" talent and have "A" Product and service. You get what you put into it. Suggest Denny's to seek and bring back quality

What do you like best about Denny's's CEO and the leadership team?

Used to drive to be and be in the mix if not 🚫 n top of competition. Innovative and adapted to growing demands of industry. Then just went stagnant or ok with almost anything. Can't expect to be or stay on top by not looking adjusting to grow accommodate and better the product which is a reflection from ceo to service Assistant. People matter. Employees matter. Make Denny's great again. By giving a shit. Looking for ways to improve not just not care as long as doors are open. Them not caring paying attention to needs, eventually door will smack close before they know it asking themselves how did it happen. Pointing fingers and what's happening now, no one being held accountable for anything. Wondering what went wrong.

How would you improve Denny's's culture?

More structured. Too to bottom. Hands on. Not just here's the numbers but interactions with employees and management, district managers. Everyone being present. Not clocked in" present" devoted.

How did you prepare for the Denny's interview?

Wow 24 years ago in high school asked to wash dishes thinking summer thing. my love found me. Never knew it would be my passion or purpose. Just said here I am hear your hiring. born into my store. Father was lead for 20 plus years before passing away in 05. Had a bitch for it. Confident. Give me a chance and you won't regret it. Promise.

What's the diversity at Denny's like?

Bullshit. My store literally ran by female managers for all of my time employed. Very very few male managers. Which all quit or found reason to terminate or flat out pushed out like in my case. Being bullied making day to day unbearable to want to even be there. no voice. Sexist. For quite some time was a female management team that got the positions bc and maintained for years bc they were the best possible option w best quality credentials. However many times men were better qualified yet passed up on.

What brings you the most joy at Denny's?

When we had it way back when. Quality team all around that shared the same passion goals and work ethic that was ni where else to be found anywhere compared to us. Our store in Winchester VA was the BAR competition hated us. Fellow Denny's strived to be us. we believed in standards and did not settle for good enough. it was be the best for success mentality. Everyone treated everyone w love and respect. Best all around place our area. We no one I mean no one could compare to what we were. Elite. Efficient. Just awesome. Being the example and standard to look at when some one asks what does it take. "This" it doesn't just happen. showed what you truly have to do to be great kinda place. Made a point to give quarterly performance evaluations gave insensitive to want to care want to be apart of the best line, crew, truly one of a kind. Not another place even another Denny's could come close to what we had. even on our worst day to their best. That damn great 👍
