Broad Overview: Following an on-site training period, the Staff Serpentologist provides care and maintenance of pit viper specimens including Mojave Rattlesnakes (Crotalus s. scutulatus), Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes (C. atrox), Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes (C. adamanteus), Cottonmouths (A.p. conanti), and other pit vipers. The incumbent functions under the established protocols for safety, security, animal welfare, and specimen husbandry. This role is 100% on site at our site in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a Serpentologist, some of your responsibilities include: * Performs safety and security checks daily * Performs care and maintenance of pit viper specimens as part of daily routine husbandry * Assists with maintaining rodent colonies as needed. * Assists with maintaining a clean facility by cleaning cages, sweeping, moping, cleaning surfaces, waste removal and other activities as needed * Help maintain security, inventory, feeding and husbandry records and assist with other documentation and record keeping as needed * Utilize manual and/or bar-coded specimen/cage data entry and data backup systems * Provides data input and storage in support of QA/QMS and EHS activities * Provide additional backup coverage when appropriate for routine duties of Senior Serpentologist and Senior Veterinary Technician Specialist * Ensuring that all interactions and engagements are carried out with the highest ethical and professional standards and that all work is accomplished with quality and in accordance with BTG values. * Carry out other reasonable tasks as required by the Line Manager. The above duties and responsibilities are not an exhaustive list, and you may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties compatible with your experience and competencies. This description may be varied from time to time to reflect changing business requirements. Education and Experience * Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in animal husbandry, including a minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with reptiles. Venomous reptile experience preferred. * Experience and knowledge of Crotalidae, pit viper biology and behaviour.
