Purpose Statement:
The job of Custodian - Campbell County is done for the purpose/s of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff and public; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities, and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.
Essential Functions
• Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and special events.
• Cleans assigned school or district facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, corridors, carpets, removes graffiti, windows, walls, restrooms, bleachers, stage, locker rooms, sidewalks, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
• Distributes supplies and equipment (e.g. fill soap dispensers, towel/toilet paper dispensers, packages, furniture, TV/VCR carts, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating materials to appropriate parties.
• Inspects facility and equipment (e.g. HVAC units, boilers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying/reporting necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
• Maintains coal fired boiler as assigned for the purpose of ensuring boiler is in proper working condition.
• Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly stock facilities.
• Prepares facility for daily operations as may be required (e.g. opening gates, raising flags, unlocks doors, snow removal, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring facilities are operational and safe for occupancy.
• Provides training and direction to community service workers and school service students for the purpose of ensuring functions are performed thoroughly and effectively.
• Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, unauthorized persons, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment.
• Secures facilities and grounds (e.g. lock doors, turn off lights, sets alarm, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and potential liability to the district. Other Functions
• Assists in snow removal as assigned for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment.
• Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial maintenance, common tools, etc., and adhering to safety practices.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: methods of industrial cleaning; safety practices and procedures; basic tools for minor repairs; confined space entry; and coal fired boiler maintenance.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Responsibility

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 70% walking, and 25% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.

18. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
19. Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing or electrical systems.
20. Sound fire signal to alert fire department and school personnel in event of fire.

A Custodian's primary duty is to keep buildings clean. Custodians work to make sure that the buildings and grounds are neat, clean, free from clutter and safe. Custodians pick up trash, sweep, mop, vacuum, clean and stock bathrooms, ensure buildings are secure, clean windows and perform minor building maintenance and repairs. At times, outdoor work will be required to assist with keeping lawns or sidewalks clean, mowing grass, tending to ornamental gardens, raking leaves or shoveling snow. This is a part-time, at-will position. Successful candidates must be available to fill in for full time custodians on relatively short notice, as needed, to cover periods of illness, injury, or vacation/leave hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleans and inspects school facilities and grounds for the purpose of ensuring that the site meets standards for safety and cleanliness, identifying vandalism, equipment breakage, weather damage, etc.
Responds to safety and / or operational concerns for the purpose of taking appropriate actions and maintaining a functioning educational environment.
Performs specialized semi-annual and annual cleaning and maintenance.

Essential Functions
* Arranges equipment and furnishings (e.g. desks, tables, bleachers, stages, etc.) for the purpose of providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events.
* Attends meetings (e.g. in-service trainings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and sharing information required to perform job functions.
* Cleans assigned facilities and grounds (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, corridors, windows, walls, board room, conference rooms, etc.) for the purpose of meeting sanitation requirements and maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
* Communicates issues about safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities to supervisor, site staff and others for the purpose of providing information, obtaining repairs, ensuring safety and/or scheduling special cleaning.
* Distributes custodial supplies and equipment for the purpose of disseminating materials to custodial staff and/or storage locations.
* Inspects facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, identifying necessary repairs to facilities and/or equipment, etc.
* Maintains a variety of custodial supplies, equipment, and landscaping (e.g. weed eaters, mowers, sprayers, trimmers, sidewalks, etc.) for the purpose of the availability of items required to properly and safely maintain facilities and preserving grounds in a healthy, attractive, and safe condition.
* Maintains strict (or complete) confidentiality on personnel and student issues (e.g. personnel records, medical records, surveillance videos and images, student data, confidential communication, etc.) for the purpose of protecting personal information for staff and students.
* Opens and/or secures facilities for daily operation (e.g. opening gates, doors, disarming security systems, raising flag, lock doors, turn off lights, take down flags, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring facilities are operational and safe for occupancy and/or minimizing property damage, equipment loss and potential liability to the district.
* Operates all appropriate equipment (e.g. trimmers, weed eaters, mowers, vacuum cleaners, burnishers, etc.) for the purpose of cleaning and maintaining building and grounds.
* Performs inspections on HVAC, roof, building condition and other building systems to provide preventative maintenance, repairs, and summer maintenance (e.g. custodial equipment, classroom/common use furniture, fixtures, vacuums including changing belts/bags, lockers, sporting equipment, light bulbs, clogged drains, changing oil filters, greasing pumps and motors, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facility, tools, and equipment in operational order.
* Removes snow and ice (e.g. sweeping, salting, sanding, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment.
* Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and/or visitors for the purpose of providing information, taking appropriate action, and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
* Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
