The SOU campus includes 175 acres of grounds, 140 of which are under active use and maintenance. Facilities Management maintains 21 major buildings comprising over one million square feet of building space. The department is staffed by approximately 45 full time personnel and is responsible for approximately 9% of the total campus budget. This position exists to complete the custodial responsibilities of Facilities and to provide occasional support to other Facilities operations. The custodian cleans a building either alone or in conjunction with other custodians and may perform a variety of tasks or only certain designated tasks depending on the assignment. Custodial tasks include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and showers, maintaining trash, dusting, window cleaning, carpet and floor cleaning and maintenance, and other periodic duties associated with maintaining the overall appearance and sanitation of the academic buildings.
