All phases of underground construction include but are not limited to: Loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal and placement of various types, sizes and weight of construction materials and equipment
Hand dig using shovel, mechanical tools
Install and maintenance of underground telecommunications cabling
Climb into and out of equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.)
Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery
Working in congested or remote areas
Maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
Perform general construction work under direction of Foreman/Supervisor
Flagging, property or worksite restoration
Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures and policies
Qualifications:
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner
Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position
Must be able to perform the above for at least 8 hours per day 5 days per week. May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or on-call
Preferred Qualifications:
Class A Commercial Driver's License
6 months of experience in the utility construction industry
Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities
Physical Requirements:
Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. Receives and interprets tree trimming, removal and chemical application orders initiated by General Foreperson or Utility, involving an understanding of drawings and symbols, representing types of power lines, voltages, and line equipment.
Responsible for the conduct of safety training of assigned personnel in accordance with good safety training procedures, in addition to and in coordination with client company policies and procedures.
Responsible for being mindful of controlling crew costs including effective use of manpower, proper work methods, amount of trimming, and operation of equipment.
Considers inclement weather conditions and determines when to start or stop work, dependent upon its effect on employees and the nature of the work.
Safeguards employees and public from hazards in and around work area. Cooperates with customer, police, and fire departments when blocking street or driveways. Sets up barriers, warning signs, flags, etc. to protect employees as well as the public. Trained to perform tree and bucket rescue. Follows and enforces safe work practices, rules and policies.
Responsible for truck inspection, proper working conditions, as well as necessary repairs to tools, trucks and other work equipment. Requests major repairs or replacements when required. Maintains good housekeeping on truck and at worksite locations.
In emergency situations, determines proper action to be taken to eliminate hazards to life and property and the trimming/removal of trees, if necessary, to expedite the restoration of service by calling out crew personnel and performing other activities connected with emergency work.
Trims and/or removes trees by climbing with the aid of a ladder, safety belt, climbing line, powered trimmer lift truck, or works from the ground using saws/pruners. Will cut branches or trunk sections and drops or lowers them to the ground with lines.
Uses appropriate tools, will fell trees or trimmed trunks and split them into manageable pieces.
Sprays stumps and brush with hand-spraying equipment to prevent further growth.
Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris and/or feeds brush into a wood chipper.
Repairs slight damage to lawns, fences, and walks caused by tree trimming.
Services gasoline, air, and hand-powered tools and other equipment.
Relays hand-signals, directs traffic, drives and operates trucks and equipment as assigned, and keeps trucks and work area clear and orderly.
Trains new employees on proper procedures.
Works around hazardous equipment and in close proximity to energized power lines.

Wildfire Mitigation Crew Leader

This position is located in the Emergency Management Department and is responsible for leading and overseeing the day-by-day operations of the fuels crew members. The position reports to the Wildfire Battalion Chief and provides supervision of the fuels crew members. This position is classified as seasonal employment with a 36-week work schedule, and no assignments during the winter season. The role is eligible for benefits.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Trains, leads, and oversees time-limited employees.
Ensures that all work is performed safely and is the crew safety officer.
Delegates work assignments; monitor and review quality of work; provides input on performance appraisals; makes recommendations regarding the hiring, training, and retention of staff.
Works closely with the Preparedness and Mitigation manager and the Wildfire Battalion Chief to develop and implement projects for Wildfire mitigation, and to create Defensible space.
Maintains fire scene safety in accordance with agency policy and jurisdictional guidelines.
Ensures all equipment and tools are clean and rehabilitated.
Assists with ensuring equipment is maintained; ensures squad members maintain valid certifications and training records in accordance with the National Wildland Coordinating Group (NWCG).
Assists with development of training programs; provides training, education, and technical expertise in wildland fire qualifications, as assigned.
Assists with the inspection and maintenance of fire suppression equipment including equipment assigned to the Gallatin County Fuels Crew.
Understands HIZ-Home ignition zones and how to mitigate hazards within them.
Responds to and performs fire suppression activities on wildland fires.
Determines when additional resources are necessary and/or circumstances warrant withdrawal to a safe location.
Presents and explains the stakeholders the advantage of Mitigation practices, and how defensible spaces are advantageous.
Produces written documents, such as resource documentation, reporting forms, time tracking records, and other documents required by contracts and agency policy, as assigned.
May perform as an Initial Attack Incident Commander in Gallatin County's unified command system, as requested.
May direct resources from other entities, as needed and assigned.
May become a Liaison between the homeowners and the Preparedness and Mitigation manager.

Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by the Emergency Management Chief Officer. If the County Commission proclaims a local emergency due to an actual or threatened disaster such as an earthquake, fire, riot, flood, etc., County employees may be required to provide services during the emergency and for a subsequent period of assessment and recovery.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of creating defensible spaces in and around homes in the Wildland Urban Interface.
Strong situational awareness and ability to read terrain, fuels and make prompt and appropriate decisions.
Ability to assist in planning the work week and maintaining a schedule for the fuels crew.
Knowledge of fire ground and emergency operations
Knowledge of fire apparatus and fire pumps.
Knowledge of wildland fire operations and Urban Interface

BFS owns and operates a FAA 145, AS9110, and Boeing certified maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility for the CH-47 Chinook. Established in 2019, the MRO facility supports the BFS Chinook fleet, commercial CH-47 customers, the United States military, and foreign militaries. The facility focuses on CH-47 drivetrain, dynamics, hydraulics, actuation, and flight controls.

This position is located in the Emergency Management Department and is responsible for leading and overseeing the day-by-day operations of the fuels crew members. The position reports to the Wildfire Battalion Chief and provides supervision of the fuels crew members. This position is classified as seasonal employment with a 36-week work schedule, and no assignments during the winter season. The role is eligible for benefits.

* Trains, leads, and oversees time-limited employees.
* Ensures that all work is performed safely and is the crew safety officer.

You'll be running crews, ensuring job quality, and helping us manage multiple projects at once. Key Responsibilities:
Lead, train, and motivate crew members on landscape installation projects
Oversee rock work, patio installation, grading, plant installation, and irrigation setup
Operate and maintain skid steers, excavators, trailers, and other machinery
Ensure project deadlines and quality standards are met
Read and interpret landscape blueprints and site plans
Communicate with clients, project managers, and team members
Enforce safety regulations and ensure a clean, organized job site
Assist with material ordering and job site logistics
Handle minor equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
What We're Looking For:
Experience in a similar role or field (We'll teach you our way, but you need a solid foundation.)
Strong knowledge of landscape installations, grading, and hardscape work
Ability to operate heavy equipment (skid steers, excavators, etc.)
Leadership skills with experience managing crews and job sites
Physically fit-landscaping is demanding work!
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record (no DUIs) are a must
Ability to safely pull trailers
Strong work ethic and a team-first attitude

Physical requirements:
The position lifts heavy objects and/or up to 50 lbs., walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor.
The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively lifts and carries heavy loads.
The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand and arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. It also requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs.
The employee must have excellent stamina.
