Job Description The Public Works department is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of Bridge Crew Leader in Olathe, KS. The job duties of the Bridge Crew Leader include the following: Independently performs a variety of skilled work related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of bridges and culverts and other road maintenance projects, including carpentry, welding, tying rebar, setting forms, placing and finishing concrete, reading plans and specifications, and operating equipment; completes and provides back-up or other support for road maintenance tasks; spreads and tamps asphalt to repair joints and patch broken pavement; cuts and prepares road surfaces for the repair of potholes and the sealing of roadway cracks; hauls and spreads sand, gravel and clay to fill washouts and repair road shoulder; removes litter and debris from roadways, including debris from flooding to ensure roadways are passable; performs roadside landscaping work, such as mowing, clearing weeds, cutting brush and trimming trees to maintain a clear recovery zone for motorists; installs erosion control materials to facilitate restoration of roadside vegetation; trains and mentors crew members on work techniques and methodologies; coordinates the daily activities and needs of the crew; communicates work plans and assigns tasks to the crew members; provides instruction on the use of equipment and labor techniques; reads and interprets complex plans and specifications; calculates the quantity of materials needed to complete the job; prepares and maintains records and reports; assists the Bridge Crew Foreman in developing priorities; assists in daily, weekly, monthly and annual planning of crew activities and assists the Bridge Crew Foreman in monitoring the safety of the crew; communicates with the general public on issues in the absence of the Bridge Crew Foreman; participates in job applicant interviews; attends coordination meetings; provides input to the Crew Foreman for annual reviews of the crew members. Essential Job Duties: Adjust daily tasks to yard sales crew members based on order volume, customer requirements, and operational needs Monitor crew progress throughout the day, providing guidance and support to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment Conduct daily huddles to communicate daily goals and safety reminders Proactively initiate conversations with customers entering the yard, offering assistance, and asking about their specific product needs Provide knowledgeable recommendations on suitable green goods (plants, shrubs, trees) and hard goods (mulch, stone, pavers) based on customer needs and project specifics Process now orders of new daily transactions Walk customers through the yard, showcasing relevant products and explaining their features, benefits, and applications Answer customer questions regarding pricing, availability, and product specifications Maintain a thorough knowledge of all green goods and hard goods, including their features, benefits, uses, and care requirements Merchandise and showcase products in the yard with proper labeling and presentation to enhance sales and customer engagement Operate equipment such as forklifts, loaders, and pallet jacks safely and efficiently to move and load materials Assist customer with ensuring proper weight distribution and load security Double-check orders to verify accuracy and completeness before loading Be aware of surroundings and potential hazards, such as uneven terrain, moving equipment, and overhead obstacles Maintain a clean and organized work area Adhere to all safety policies and procedures Other Duties and Responsibilities: Promote and foster company s core values Other job duties as assigned Competencies for Success: Job & Technical Expertise: Demonstrate depth of knowledge and skill in a technical or functional area.
