Position Summary: The Construction Crew Leader assists the Site Supervisor in running the build site on a daily basis including completing the day's work plan, solving problems and ensuring volunteers and homebuyers have a meaningful experience and are satisfied with their involvement. This position will support our construction department's growth as we expand into a second focus neighborhood by supporting the management of multiple build sites and ensuring that materials and tool management are maintained. The Construction Crew Leader will supervise volunteer crews and assist in developing and supporting volunteer crew leaders. The Construction Crew Leader will also ensure a smaller volunteer-to-leader ratio, ensuring that volunteers have appropriate supervision to do effective, safe construction work. Key Responsibility: Construction and Volunteer Management (80%) -
Ensure safety on site by providing both a safety briefing and a jobsite orientation is presented for all volunteers as well as ensuring volunteers understand how to safely use tools and equipment
Supervise and lead a team of volunteers through daily construction activities ensuring a consistently excellent, safe, productive, and fun experience
Support the affiliate's promotion of the volunteer program by taking photos of volunteers and groups throughout build days
Collaborate with construction staff to identify skilled/enthusiastic volunteers and cultivate their involvement in Habitat's work (i.e. encourage them to consider being trained as regular site leaders and/or returning volunteers)
Attend required construction staff meetings

Environment: Service site is an active construction site on the far south side of the city of Chicago. The site often has rough and uneven terrain. Conditions: Must be able to lift 25 pounds and work at a computer for long periods of time.
Compensation: AmeriCorps members will receive a monthly living stipend, health plan benefits, worker's compensation, and loan deferral. Habitat Chicago provides an additional $700 housing stipend and $250 stipend for food and transportation. Members receive an education award at the completion of their term of service (1700 hours).

Your Role

Responsibilities
Clean the assigned contracts according to the specifications of the contract agreement.

Drive Sertoma vehicles with care and caution. Sertoma vans are used to transport Crew Members and equipment to job sites. Remove, or cause Crew Members to remove, all equipment and supplies from vans after use and return to the proper storage area. It is the Crew Leader's responsibility that the equipment, supplies, and contract/van keys get returned to the proper storage area.
Maintain all janitorial equipment assigned in "like new" condition.
Report any equipment/van problems or malfunctions in a timely manner using the proper maintenance request forms.
Serve as liaison between the contract sites and Sertoma Star.
Keep vans filled with gas. Tanks should be at least half full at all times.
Fill out Vehicle Log Book in the van on a daily basis.
Turn in time sheets and contract sheets the next working day after the 15th and end of each month.
Conduct yourself in a professional manner on the job site at all times.

Job Summary:
An employee in this classification performs work of routine difficulty by coordinating the work of the custodians. Work is distinguished by the ability to assist with cleaning projects. Direct supervision is received by the assigned manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with a minimum of three years directly applicable custodial experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge of the proper use of custodial equipment and chemical products.
Working skills in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
Working skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
Working skills in verbal and written communication.

Essential Duties:
Assist management in the coordination of various custodial job requests. Coordinate job assignments and areas to custodial staff.
Assist management with the training of custodians.
Assist in the set-up and tear-down of facility events.
Perform and maintain custodial tasks in various areas of the college buildings, as requested by custodial managers and Operations & Maintenance department staff.
Lock, unlock and provide security of buildings and classrooms per college's schedule of events.
Check and report progress of custodial tasks to management.
Inform management of supply inventory shortages.
Maintains required training, licensure and/or certifications
Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the division is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality
