Position Requirements
Education and Experience
Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work or approved human services approved related degree required.
Experience in a behavioral health setting required.

CSAC preferred.
Special Requirements

Scope of Responsibilities

The Evening Mental Health Counselor shall provide mental health/counseling intervention and prevention services to students during the Student Life Program hours. This position of Evening Mental Health Counselor identifies and provides developmentally appropriate and individualized supports to students, with the goals of increasing self-esteem, raising student expectations for achievement, enhancing life and social-skills development, encouraging positive self-awareness, and promoting The SEED School character values. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Evening Mental Health Counselor will provide:
Direct Student Mental Health and Counseling Services
Serve as a primary source of mental health/counseling support during the Student Life Program hours (Sunday: 5 p.m.- 9 p.m. and Monday thru Thursday: 12 p.m.- 9 p.m.), primarily within the boys' dorm.
Conduct comprehensive mental health needs assessments for students.
Provide direct services to students through clinical intervention strategies (including individual, family, and group treatments) and individualized student planning based on child and family social work standards, current school data, and The SEED School vision and mission.
Provide primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention programming within the boarding school setting.
Encourage family engagement and parent involvement in collaboration with staff specialists.
Collaborate with the Student Support Team (Director of Student Support/Licensed Psychologist, School Psychologists, School Counselors, Social Workers, and Deans of Students), as well as Student Life Managers, and Directors of Student Life and Academic Programs to determine best practices for clinical intervention, student growth, and academic success.

The Greater Washington Urban League is offering The Black Fatherhood Blueprint Program in partnership with the United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA). This program will provide guidance and support for fathers and their families. Fathers will be supported in the areas of health, relationships, and economic mobility. The program will help Black Fathers in Washington, DC to improve overall wellness, economic well-being, and reduce child support arrears for hundreds of families in the District of Columbia, now and in future generations. After a four-month ramp-up phase, the program will serve 150 families over a 2-year period.
The fathers will receive ongoing guidance and resources, to support their healing, build their network of support, increase their parenting knowledge, and improve their overall well-being, while also fulfilling their duty to provide financial resources for their child. The program will provide healing circles, financial therapy, workforce development training, parenting education, mental and physical health resources, legal support, housing navigation, emergency financial assistance, peer support groups, individual and family therapy, and more. It will serve as a place for fathers to build stronger familial bonds, regain their financial footing, catch up on child support arrears, and develop their own social and emotional well-being and that of their families.
The Dad Advocate (Case Manager) will play an integral role in providing comprehensive support to Black fathers and their families, guiding them through a range of social services and resources to enhance their well-being and empower them in their role as fathers. This position involves conducting intake assessments, developing individualized care plans, and offering advocacy to ensure clients have access to critical services, such as housing, employment, legal assistance, and mental health support. This role requires 5 weeks of onsite training at their Columbia, Maryland facility. You must live within a commutable distance to Columbia, MD to be eligible for this role. After the initial training, you are required to go on site 2x/month for in-person feedback and quality assurance coaching sessions. In this role you will be responsible for providing online emotional support to individuals utilizing Crisis Chat and Text services includes providing emotional support and resources to all contacts. This also includes online communication via email and chat, no phone work is required in this role. You will receive approximately 48 hours of training related to active listening skills, suicide prevention practices, and utilization of agency resources to match texters with needed information. You will receive 5 weeks total of in-person training during the same shift that you'll be working. A high emphasis is placed on quality assurance for this role.

Provide an initial clinical assessment and ongoing risk assessments using the Columbia Suicide Severity Risk Scale (C-SSRS). Provide ongoing safety planning using the Veterans Affairs Safety Plan.
Provide clinical case management to Sailors enrolled in SAIL per published protocols and procedures. Ensure enrolled Sailors are connected to behavioral health providers and other supportive resources, as indicated, throughout SAIL engagement.
Collaborate closely with Sailor's Command providing routine updates regarding
Sailor risk, safety, and progress in their recovery in accordance with the DoDI 6490.08.
Collaborate with Sailors behavioral health treatment provider(s), and other service providers upon receipt of release of information from the Sailor.
Participate in virtual, program-specific, quarterly quality assurance procedures to ensure that all SAIL services provided are safe and of good quality.
Document and maintain current records in the FFSMIS SAIL Record System for all SAIL contacts, assessments, and case management services provided IAW Navy requirements.
Ensure Command referral information for Sailors who decline or who cannot be contacted is documented in the FFSMIS SAIL Record System. At the conclusion of SAIL services, alert command that SAIL services are ending and advise on procedures if the Sailor's risk of suicide related behavior returns.
Report suspected child abuse and domestic abuse/violence to the local civilian authorities and the Family Advocacy Representative IAW Navy and state requirements. For clients wanting to make a restricted domestic abuse report, provide a warm handoff to the installation Family Advocacy Representative or FAP Victim Advocate. For clients wanting to make a restricted sexual assault report, provide a warm handoff to the installation Sexual Assault Response Coordinator or SAPR Victim Advocate.
Ensure Sailors receive an initial evaluation by Military Treatment Facility/Emergency Department qualified staff after suicide-related behavior or ideation in accordance with local emergency response procedures and in coordination with the Sailors command
Required Work Experience
SAIL Social Service Associates must possess demonstrated experience providing administrative support to a medical or other social service office. Excellent facility with computer and office automation software is required.
Demonstrated experience providing advocacy or case management services is required.
SAIL Social Service Associates shall possess a broad range of specialized work experience including working with family programs, military or civilian social service agencies, and/or is a military family member with full understanding of the military lifestyle.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication, assessment, data management, and advocacy skills.
Possess advocacy knowledge, skills, and abilities such as: working knowledge of state, federal, and local resources, as well as understanding, sensitivity, and empathy for sailors and family members from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic background.
Agree to operate within established guidelines of the Navy FFSP Program.
