Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts
Wages:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour
JOB SPECIFICATION:
Prepares all food as outlined by the menu and ensures appropriate and appetizing presentation of food items.
Responsible to address food complaints immediately if possible and offer an alternative as necessary.
Ensures that residents who are on special diets are offered their dietary options as directed by themselves, their physician, or family members.
Assists maintenance of supplies and proper storage of supplies.
Ensure compliance of ALF with federal, state, and local standards.
Follow shift assignments as given by the supervisor.
Participate in mandatory staff training & meetings.
Assist personnel and residents in establishing a home-like atmosphere.
Assists in ensuring that equipment is used and maintained as designed.
Submit requests for repair and replacement when necessary.
All other duties assigned.
Experience:
Experience in commercial kitchen preferable.
Experience in Food preparation is desirable, but not required.
Needs to have knowledge of food handling operations and the ability to prepare nutritious food and present it in an appetizing manner that meets all the dietary needs of the residents.
Certification in CPR and First Aid within the first 30 days.
Ability to read, write, communicate, and follow written and oral instructions in the English language.
High school diploma or GED.

The Bower Lodge Restaurant Cook II is responsible for assisting with the preparation and cooking of all food in our restaurant locations. The Restaurant Cook II is expected to perform the following duties at an exceptional standard with proven skill set: accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook and present a variety of hot and/or cold food products, along with various snack options and grab-and-go items. The Restaurant Cook II will be expected to execute the following meals at a high standard: Breakfast, dinner, bar food menus, and special and catered event menus. Responsibilities
Bakes, roasts, stews, fries, steam-cooks, or otherwise prepares food products for cooking by following instructions and standard hospital recipes.
Utilizes knowledge of cooking methods and preparation time requirements to ensure that adequate amounts of properly prepared foods are provided in a timely fashion.
Uses cooking knowledge and experience to adjust recipes for factors such as altitude, special diet orders, etc.
Adheres to manufacturer instructions and standard hospital kitchen procedures when operating machinery and equipment used in cooking including slicers, choppers, steamers, broilers, griddles, fryers, braziers, blenders, microwaves, etc.
Weighs cooking products, as required, ensuring proper portion delivery.
Cleans the work area, refrigerators, stoves, ovens, storeroom, and utensils in order to comply with hospital, county and state sanitation requirements.
Performs quality checks for taste and appearance of finished food products.
Uses department-specific computer software and daily menus to complete purchase and issue requisitions and to forecast cooking production for the cafeteria, catering, day care area, and patient needs.
Sets up and stocks area for food service delivery and assists in serving cooked items.
Orders, rotates, and maintains adequate stock levels required for cooking production by estimating needs according to the production schedule.
Assists in completing all aspects of cooking production to ensure that ordered items are delivered on time.
Assists with catering functions including food preparation, set-up, presentation and clean-up.
May develop, modify, or experiment with hospital recipes and cooking procedures to improve kitchen output or services.
