DESCRIPTION
Prepares well balanced meals on a daily basis; prepares a high quality of food under the soundest sanitary conditions for the Kitchen, Dining Room, and all catering operations. Provides services and supports for clients that help the residents develop appropriate skills to increase or maintain their level of functioning. This person works directly with residents to promote recovery.

The Facility Administrator is the immediate supervision and provides supervision of the Lead Cook. However, given the nature of the business, the Assistant Administrator will often provide direct supervision, primarily in the absence of the Facility Administrator.

RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will or may:
Prepare meals and assists with the feeding of residents according to menus and dining plans.
Give direction regarding food preparation methods.
Serves food under sanitary conditions as prescribed by the State Health Department.
Follows and uses recipes as outlines.
Checks incoming merchandise against packing list.
Stays awake and alert throughout the shift.
Receives trainings prior to giving care; passes and maintains certification in
CPR.
Participates in the inventory, ordering and/or purchasing of supplies,
including food, as assigned.
Maintains clean, sanitary and safe conditions, for example, sweeping,
mopping, vacuuming, window washing, oven cleaning etc., both routinely,
and as needed. Reports all safety hazards.
Provides timely and accurate documentation as required per OAR's and
Community Counseling Solutions policies and procedures.
Reports any suspected violations or clients rights or abuse of a client by
another client or a staff member according to policies and OAR's regarding
mandatory reporting. Such reporting is required for, but is not limited to,
suspected incidents of physical assault, neglect of care, sexual exploitation
of financial exploitation, which may also include borrowing or removing
property from the home.
Attends staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
Follows the policies and procedures of Community Counseling Solutions.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALFICATIONS
The ability to interact and relate to residents, staff, managers and others with respect and dignity. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; comprehend laws, administrative rules and regulations and agency policies, and develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors and other professionals. Ability to deal with clients experiencing crisis situations.
Education and Experience
This position must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to pass a criminal history background check, and have a current drivers license.
Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be experience in volume food cookery in a large institutional kitchen or commercial food preparation establishment, with experience in the operation of a cash register and serving line.

Our team within the Reentry Division is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill a permanent, on call Cook 2 (Cook 1 in training) role. This position is located at Tri-Cities Reentry Center in Kennewick, Washington.
Cook 1- In-Training (Range 36) $3,243.00-$4,293.00 On Call - $18 - $24
Cook 2 (Range 39): $3,470.00-$4,620.00 On Call - $19.94 - $26.55
*Depending on qualifications, the selected candidate may be appointed at the Cook 1 in-training level or directly at the Cook 2 level.
This position contributes to the agency's mission to improve public safety by planning, ordering, preparing and serving the resident population at Reentry Centers with nutritionally appropriate, quality meals that meet the recommended daily allowance as specified in the Department's certified meal plan. Meals for residents are prepared and served in a timely manner in accordance with the applicable state and federal regulations and within the budgetary requirements.

Duties
Duties of a Cook 2 include, but are not limited to:
Participate in the preparation and service of all food on a shift:
Perform mathematical calculations by converting recipes to determine the appropriate quantity of food products required to meet menu requirements and populations to be served.
Ensure adherence to appropriate portion control protocols.
Check food product during and after preparation, ensuring appropriate quality standards are met and adequate quantity has been prepared.
Understand and apply rethermalization of food process/procedures if appropriate.
Practice and perform progressive cooking techniques for quality control and to decrease waste within the food service area.
Follow basic safety practices to preclude hazards and accidents.
Prepare special diets as required (medical or religious).
Maintain and model the highest standards of personal hygiene.
Keep work surfaces and equipment clean and in compliance with state and local Health Department sanitation standards.

Maintain and track knife and tool inventory.
Perform ordering, inventory, storage, use and reporting tasks:
Maintain and organize accurate food inventories and ensure rotation of stock items to prevent spoilage and pilferage.

Receive, store and use chemicals and cleaning supplies appropriately.
Prepare and submit work orders/equipment repair orders.
Monitor residents, ensure safe and secure operations:
Execute and maintain tool control processes according to DOC policy.
Maintain key control per DOC policy.
Ensure safe handling, operation, care, use and cleaning of kitchen equipment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Two (2) years' cooking experience in a large-scale food service or culinary operation. Completion of a course in large-scale cooking may be substituted for one year of experience
Current food handler permit.

One (1) year as a Cook 1 in State service
Current food handler permit.
Ability to:
•Cook a variety of foods
•Follow written and oral instructions
•Write clearly, factually, and concisely
•Read, understand, estimate quantities and follow recipes with minimal waste
•Effectively communicate verbally
•Schedule and organize daily work
•Operate and demonstrate the safe handling and operation of kitchen equipment, e.g., mixers, ovens,

Preferred Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED
