We are looking for a skilled individual to serve as a cook for our Audrey Grace House. The Kitchen staff plan, prepare and serve meals and snacks for staff and children in care as well as maintain a clean and functioning kitchen, pantry and dining area. Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Keeping Kids Safe!
Being a positive role model.
Providing a safe, stable and home-like environment;
Building healthy relationships with the kids in care to support them as they heal and work through their trauma. This also encourages positive behavior and relational growth;
Completing and implementing necessary trainings as required;
Studying, practicing and operating within the New Horizons' Philosophy and Employee Handbook.
Plan and prepare meals that meet proper nutritional requirements;
Ensure that food is stored and handled properly, and that the kitchen and all its equipment are thoroughly sanitary;
Be responsible for purchasing food and keeping records of those accounts;
Manage relationships with distributors and resolve issues with vendors promptly; and
Ensure safety and sanitation practices in the kitchen.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be 21 years of age or older;
A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required;
Applicants must pass criminal background checks, a drug screening and a tuberculosis test;
Currently hold or be able to obtain a Food Handlers Permit in the state of Texas;
Applicants must adhere to New Horizons' drug and tobacco-free workplace policy;
Applicants must submit a current Resume and References for consideration;
Be experienced in kitchen operations, including: food preparation, ordering, menu planning, and have a general knowledge of regulations and standards;
Demonstrate good leadership skills as well as effective oral and written communication skills;
Possess a working knowledge of inventory control methods, proper nutrition, and the ability prepare large group menus;
Possess extensive prior experience that demonstrates their cognitive ability to assist the child in difficult, crisis and demanding times; and
Work under the supervision of the Administrator with moderate level of discretion and judgment.

Summary
