The Controller is responsible for all financial reporting, internal and external, for the system. In addition, the Controller is responsible for the annual system budget, treasury function, cost reports, AHCA reports, annual tax returns, and annual independent audits. Areas of responsibility include corporate, hospitals, physician group, and joint venture companies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned. · Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation within areas as assigned. · Supervises the preparation of the monthly financial statements for the system. · Supervises completion of annual operating, capital and FTE budgets for the system. · Supervises completion of all required external financial reports for NCH. · Supervises completion of all tax returns. · Utilizes the data to make relevant comparisons concerning departmental performance both inside and outside the system. Results are used to make changes in order to continually improve on the quality of patient care and services we provide. Works with other department directors to assist them in the use of relevant benchmarking data. · Responsible for insuring monthly reconciliations are performed and internal controls are established and adequately followed to insure assets are safeguarded. · Supervises the completion of all rating material for Moody's and Fitch. · Maintains a current knowledge of developments in reimbursement and the accounting profession that will affect the financial reporting of the NCH Healthcare System. Communicates such knowledge to staff. · Supervises the annual third party independent audit. · Responsible for Treasury Management which includes reporting and oversight of the Investment Committee activity. · Implements changes needed to compensate for legislative action. · Participates in all capital financing activities of the system. · Prepares financial information for Certificates of Need. · Participates in business planning for the system. · Understands the confidential nature of the work performed in the Accounting department and works to protect such confidentiality. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: * Supervise / mentor one to two direct reports, and additional reports as required by growth. * Manage corporate general ledger, prepare/review journal entries and prepare/review account reconciliations. * Prepare, review and lead the financial consolidation of the Company's financial statements. * Manage or perform various month-end close duties including the review of business unit financial statements and various consolidation checks. * Oversee the process of recharging business units for shared platform cost, ensuring accurate cost allocation, timely billing and necessary business unit support. * Manage the annual financial audit of the financial statements and be a key contact for tax consultants in preparation of the corporate tax filings. * Prepare and oversee the quarterly debt compliance certificate and related calculations. Support annual insurance renewal and allocation of costs to the business units. * Review / develop acquisition accounting for newly acquired businesses in accordance with US GAAP guidance. * Be a US GAAP expert to the business by researching and answering questions on various topics such as revenue recognition, warranty, leases, insurance reserves and other topics as requested. Prepare and assist in accounting position papers as needed. * Develop and implement new accounting policies and procedures for the organization. * Identify areas for improvements such as internal controls or accounting procedures, implement new internal controls or procedures accordingly to drive efficiencies or complete and accurate reporting. * Assist with corporate wide finance initiatives such as consistent reporting, acquisition or integration support, or various system implementations. * Other Ad-hoc tasks and duties as assigned. Required Education/Experience: * Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance and a CPA License. * An MBA or other advanced degree preferred. * Previous experience managing accounting personnel desired. * 8 + years of public accounting or experience working in a private equity owned company preferred. * Technical knowledge of US GAAP including Purchase Accounting. * Experience in a multi-project-based company, preferably in Construction, Engineering, or other project-based industry experience. * Experience and demonstrated understanding of percentage of completion accounting desired. * Systems savvy with implementation experience and proficiency preferred. * Proficiency in G/L, business intelligence and reporting tools preferred. * MS Office suite proficiency required. * Experience with the Planful or other consolidation tool desired.
