Establish team rules concerning attendance, practice and training rules, and enforce them; make sure each athletic director and each athlete gets a copy of them prior to the beginning of practice. Publicize results, win or lose, to athletic director, student body, and news media. Supervise all team members before, during and after practice and games. Aid in any way possible in planning schedules, transportation, officials and setting up for home games. Correspond with college coaches who are interested in any of our players as potential collegiate student athletes. Submit awards list to athletic director as soon as possible. Secure all league, local, district and state awards and submit to athletic director. Coordinate the total interscholastic soccer program in the Cloverleaf Schools. Communicate soccer needs with grounds keeper/custodian whenever it is needed to provide a better place to practice and play. Assist in scheduling the non-conference games for varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams. Make sure that O.H.S.A.A. tournament games take precedence, then conference games, and thirdly, non-conference games; re-schedule non-conference games only if it can be done easily by both schools. Responsible for assisting in obtaining assistant coaching positions. Selecting a squad will be the final decision of the coach or coaches. Be responsible for the information in the Athletic Handbook and see that all assistants are also aware of this material. Be responsible for the distribution and collection of all uniforms and equipment. Inform athletic director when difficulties arise. Carry required emergency forms for all players, scorekeepers and managers for all practices and games. Responsible for physical cards, emergency medical authorization forms and code of conduct for all players in your program. By the end of the first week of practice, the coach shall provide the athletic director with a roster of all student athletes kept and communicate roster updates if necessary. Conduct himself/herself on the field at all times in such a manner that he/she will not insult players, officials or spectators. Do not argue a judgment call by the officials. Know the rules. Be responsible for the conduct of your players. Teach by example. Encourage positive fan involvement. Organize practices, off-season workouts and conduct staff meetings. Evaluate coaches and make recommendations for the next year. Complete any entry forms or materials that are needed in order for your team to be eligible to compete. Outline the skills you want mastered at each grade level. Be the advisor and consultant to middle school coaches. Outline specific assignments for all coaches associated with your program. Be responsible for delegating responsibilities to all coaches. Inform all participants of the safety precautions associated with their sport or activity and teach proper skills to reduce chance of injury. Check all equipment routinely for safety concerns. Be responsible for all equipment including proper storage daily and inventory. Assist athletic director in preparing budget. Responsible for filming, keeping statistics and submitting records to the athletic director at the end of the year. Responsible for reporting and care of all injuries. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values. Walsh University is a member of NCAA Division II that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Graduate Assistant-Men's Assistant Rugby Coach (GA) is responsible for assisting the coaching staff in coaching/mentoring student-athletes technically and tactically on the field, as well as, guiding them through academic achievement and personal development. The graduate assistant coach is also responsible for helping retain student-athletes and the day-to-day practice regimen. The GA Coach reports to Director of Rugby/Head Coach. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Coaching/mentoring: * Assists the head coach to communicate goals, expectations, and accountability to help maintain high standard of performance, ethics, and sportsmanship on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. * Create a relationship built on the sincere interest in each student-athletes' academic, athletic, and personal pursuits. * Collaborate with other college staff when/if necessary. * Assists with the process to plan, organize and facilitate individual and team training and competition. * Assists in the coordination of travel arrangements. * Assists in completion and processing of paperwork as requested. * Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletic department, attends department meetings and activities as needed, and always represents the University in a positive manner when interacting with the community, alumni, coaches, the media and the general public. * Educates and mentors student athletes in all aspects of their holistic development; mind, body and spirit. * Establishing an environment that supports and promotes academic excellence in student-athletes * Study and implement strategy and skills needed to prepare for competition. * Learn, know, and abide by NCAA Division II rules and regulations. * Lead in a way that positively reflects the mission and vision of the institution. * Adhere to rules, guidelines and principles set forth by the Rugby East Conference * Failure to comply by NCAA II rules will be grounds for discipline and/or termination. * Assists the head coach and staff to plan, communicate, create, and model the same expectations as the head coach. * Other duties: * Establish and maintain an alumni relationship. * Be creative and willing to fundraise to support operating budget. * Other duties as assigned or required This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee(s) of this position. Carry required emergency forms for all squad members to all practices and games. Responsible for physical cards, emergency medical authorization forms and code of conduct for all squad members. Conduct yourself on the field at all times in such a manner that you will not insult players, officials or spectators. Be responsible for the conduct of your squad members. Teach by example. Encourage positive fan involvement. Inform all participants of the safety precautions associated with their sport or activity and teach proper skills to reduce chance of injury.
