Summary and Purpose:

Responsibilities/ Duties/Tasks/ Essential Functions:
Plans, organize and develops athletic programming and activities of the program.
Schedules all practice, scrimmages, and games.
Meets all travel and game requirements.
Builds a cohesive and competitive program.
Recruits academically and athletically qualified full-time student-athletes to participate in the program.
Hires, trains, and evaluates the performance of assistant coaches.
Promotes the academic progress and graduation of student-athletes, including assisting with the enforcement of a study program.
Assists the athletic department with athletic issues as needed.

Reports any known violations or concerns to the administration
Complies with all Athletic Department policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Must have 3-5 years of advanced hockey coaching experience. College coaching experience preferred.
Must possess a valid CPR certification
Must possess a valid State of Michigan Driver's License and be responsible for driving Aquinas College vehicles and/or rental vehicles when assigned for away contests.
Must have strong service-oriented skills and an exceptional customer service attitude.

Under the general supervision of the High School Head Coach and Athletic Director/Assistant Athletic Director, the Sub-Varsity Coach is responsible for performing coaching functions for their designated sport. The Coach will develop individual and team proficiency by teaching and coaching individual students and teams in the skills of the sport, physical conditioning, safety, injury prevention and management, the rules and strategies of the game, team cooperation, and good sportsmanship. This position is subject to extension/nonrenewal after each season at the discretion of the Athletic Director/Assistant Director.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Provides training for athletes on all rules and skills of the designated sport, training on physical conditioning and injury prevention, and development of skills through various drills and individual coaching
Assists the Head Athletic Coach in scheduling, and providing transportation to tournaments and special sporting events as required
Assists in preparing for scheduled sporting events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times
Maintains correspondence with players and parents to address any issues or concerns related to the team as requested by the Head Athletic Coach
Works with the Head Athletic Coach, Athletic Director, Counselors, and the Athletic Office to ensure that each athlete is academically eligible for participation
Monitors athlete class attendance, behavior, and academic progress and works with teachers to encourage academic growth
Attends all practices and games as directed by the head athletic coach
Monitors the inventory of athletic equipment (usage, storage, repair, and cleaning of all equipment and uniforms)
Regularly reviews publications and attends clinics to keep current with innovative ideas and techniques in the designated sport
Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program
Participate in MHSAA and work with local athletic teams to coordinate participation and practice schedules as needed
As required, provides documentation to the Athletic Director to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility

Employment Qualifications
EDUCATION: This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.). Additional coursework or a Bachelor's Degree in Education is preferred
EXPERIENCE: Successful coaching experience at the high school level or college coaching/playing experience is essential. Head Varsity Coaching experience is highly desirable

Under the general supervision of the Athletic Director, the Varsity Coach is responsible for performing coaching functions for their designated sport. The Coach will develop individual and team proficiency by teaching and coaching individual students and teams in the skills of the sport, physical conditioning, safety, injury prevention and management, the rules and strategies of the game, team cooperation, and good sportsmanship.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Provides training for athletes on all rules and skills of the designated sport, training on physical conditioning and injury prevention, and development of skills through various drills and individual coaching
Assists the Athletic Director in scheduling, and providing transportation to tournaments and special sporting events as required
Assists in preparing for scheduled sporting events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times
Maintains correspondence with players and parents to address any issues or concerns related to the team as requested by the Athletic Director
Works with the Athletic Director, Counselors, and the Athletic Office to ensure that each athlete is academically eligible for participation
Monitors athlete class attendance, behavior, academic progress and works with teachers to encourage academic growth
Attends all practices and games as directed by the Athletic Director
Monitors the inventory of athletic equipment (usage, storage, repair and cleaning of all equipment and uniforms)
Regularly reviews publications and attends clinics to keep current with innovative ideas and techniques in the designated sport
Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program
Participate in MHSAA and work with local athletic teams to coordinate participation and practice schedules as needed
As required, provides documentation to the Athletic Director to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility

Employment Qualifications
EDUCATION: This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.). Additional coursework or a Bachelor's Degree in Education is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Successful coaching experience at the high school level or college coaching/playing experience is essential. Head Varsity Coaching experience is highly desirable.
