Job Title: Head Cross Country Coach Compensation: Hiring Range - $16,299 - $19,559 - 10-month contract . Who can apply: Internal/external candidates eligible to work in the United States. Position Information: The Head Cross Country Coach is responsible for all aspects of the development and coaching of the Mayville State University cross country program: recruiting student-athletes, coordinating practices and activity, travel, and promoting events and activities. This position reports to the Athletic Director and will serve as a leader of a program that competes in the Frontier Conference as part of the NAIA. The Head Coach will be responsible for organizing, directing, and administering a competitive cross-country program in the Frontier Conference and NAIA. Duties and Responsibilities: The general responsibilities of the Head Coach include, but are not limited to: * Overseeing all aspects of the cross-country program and all athletes associated with the program * Successfully manage all athletes associated with the program with a targeted focus on academic success, program culture, and actions of the student-athletes * Design and implementation of effective practice and race plans * Direct and independent coaching and skills development of student-athletes during practice and competitions * Assessment and recruitment of prospective student-athletes * Supervising off-season programs and athlete development * Possible hosting of cross country events each year * Supervising budget management, equipment oversight, and travel planning * Participation in public relations, marketing, and fundraising for the cross country program and the athletic department * Ensures all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained during training, practice, and competition * Compliance with NAIA, Frontier Conference, and Mayville State University rules and regulations General Expectations: The head coach is expected to be a person of integrity with high ethical standards who will require the same of staff members and student-athletes. Our Youth Sports Coach will contribute to the Ys mission by providing a safe, non-competitive, and enjoyable sporting experience for your assigned group of aspiring athletes while teaching them individual and team game skills and rules, sportsmanship, fair play, and character values. This is accomplished through building relationships and actively engaging with parents, volunteer coaches and participants. You will rotate between coaching at Broadview Y, East Side Y, Ferguson Y, and West Side Y. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Cultivate relationships with youth sports participants, parents/guardians/caregivers and volunteer sports coaches. * Plan and prepare for class including proper set up, activities and teaching based upon established curriculum, working with volunteer coaches in the execution of program goals and a safe setting for children. * Provide instruction, coaching and instructional refereeing. * Maintain and monitor spaces for safety consideration and member service. * Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children which includes: * Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children. * Attend required abuse risk management training. * Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. * Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements. SKILLS AND TRAINING * Basic understanding of the fundamental skills and coaching strategies for sports which may include basketball, soccer, t-ball, baseball, volleyball or flag football. * Experience in a team environment playing or leading an organized sport. * Experience working with groups of children ages 4-10 years of age. * Energetic and engaging with small group behavior management. * Ability to work a flexible schedule in an indoor or outdoor setting depending upon the season, that includes weekends and evenings required. * Must be at least 14 years of age. PHYSICAL DEMANDS For the most part, the work is done in a recreational environment that may be indoors or outdoors depending upon the sport and season. The ability to crouch, stoop, kneel, move quickly, and/or lift at least 30 pounds will be necessary. Youth Sports Coaches are required to move sports equipment such as cones, goals and balls.
