Expectations - Develops a program that will excel in athletic performance and opportunity, classroom achievement, and community expectations. - Creates an environment whereby athletes can achieve academic and athletic success. - Enforces the “Code of Ethics” for all athletes. - Teaches sportsmanship and sets an example of good moral and physical behavior. - Assumes responsibility for the conduct and well-being for all players and assistant coaches. - Conducts self in a manner, both on and off the field that will bring credit to yourself, your team, and your school. - Develops an open-line of communication with participants, teachers, administrators, and parents - Is loyal and trustworthy to the student-athletes, team, school, and Gadsden Independent School District. - Monitors academic performance to ensure the student-athlete is enjoying academic success. Rules and Guidelines -Is familiar with and follows the policies and guidelines of the Gadsden Independent School District and the New Mexico Activities Association. - Ensures that all required Gadsden Independent School District and New Mexico Activities Association paperwork is completed and signed on RANK ONE” before student-athlete is allowed to practice or play. Professional Responsibilities - Reports inappropriate behavior of any athletic personnel or participant to the Campus Principal and Athletic Coordinator. - Supervises and evaluates assistant coaches, cooperatively with the Athletic Coordinator, and assigns their respective duties and responsibilities. - Is responsible to the Principal and Athletic Director for the entire program, grades 7 - 8. - Attends professional meetings and clinics. - Works continually with the Principal, Athletic Director, Athletic Coordinator, and other coaches to upgrade the total athletic program. - Does not allow a injured participant to play until cleared by medical professional - Cooperates with and is responsive to the needs of other coaches and their athletic programs. - Encourages athletes to participate in other sports. - Cooperates with School Athletic Coordinator and other coaches in the scheduling and use of facilities. - Cooperates with the Athletic Director in arrangements made for travel Program Development - Promotes and supports athletic programs that involve mid-school and elementary school students. Program Coordination with the High School Team - Works directly with and supports the high school program and head coach. - Offensive and defensive strategies will align with the high school's philosophy. Methods and Strategies - Instructs participants in safety-related issues and the need for reporting injuries to the coach. - Implements coaching strategies, in coordination with the high school program, that represent technical knowledge and reflects the ability to create, utilize or react to different game situations. - Uses coaching methods and techniques that represent an up-to-date philosophy, the ability to analyze and correct errors, and the employment of sound teaching skills and techniques. - Is innovative in using new coaching techniques and ideas. Job Description

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instruction

* Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.

* Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

* Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.

* Potentially drive to and from games.

Program Management

* Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluates students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.

* Take the necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.

* Keep informed of and ensure compliance wit UIL rules and TCSAAL.

* Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.

* Work with athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinates arrangements.

* Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program and make changes based on findings.

Student Management

* Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips.

* Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations regarding academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.

* Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

* Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in phases of athletic participation.

Communication

* Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.

Administration

* Assist in selection of equipment and instructional materials.

* Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required.

* Maintain a current inventory of fixed assets within the program.

* Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing campus athletic equipment.

* Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Physical and Mental Demands/Environmental Factors:

* Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun and heat.
