The Youth Athletic Official is responsible for the general control of youth athletic games.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the park district's policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner
Follow our program philosophy: “Fun and personal skill development are top priorities.”
Create a good learning environment by encouraging and helping each participant develop to his or her full potential
Distribute program information to desired parties
Implement and enforce game and safety rules
Usage of proper sport signals and techniques when officiating games
Assist with the set-up and take down equipment
Report broken equipment/supplies to supervisor
Perform other duties and functions as assigned
Risk Management
Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program of the River Trails Park District
Attend and participate in staff and training meetings
Actively support and enforce the safety program instituted by the Park District
Maintain a working knowledge of all general agency and department-specific safety rules
Attend required safety program and in-service education meetings as directed
Correct unsafe conditions and/or reports them to your director supervisor
Enforce safety disciplinary policies and procedures
Use protective gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to pathogens
Take charge in any emergency situation and complete necessary incident forms
Required Qualifications:
Must be at least 14 years or older with work permit (if under 16 years)
Knowledge of sport specific skills and game rules
Must possess the ability to work with participants of various ages, coaches & other staff
Ability to communicate with participants, parents, and other staff
Good oral & written communication skills
Recommended Qualifications:
Display good time management and organizational skills
Valid Driver's License
Be fair, attentive, enthusiastic and display good sportsmanship
Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 3 months of employment

This position could require you to work some weeknight evenings for re-scheduled games due to cancellations for inclement weather. Referees must supply their own whistle, stopwatch and referee shirt in a color that is not blue or yellow.

Responsible for the safety and control of soccer games as assigned and the laws of the game (as authorized by IFAB and provided by FIFA with Park District adjustments for age and skill level) and must be studied, known, and used consistently in every game.
