The research coordinator will work with a team on grant-funded studies designed to evaluate neurobehavioral characteristics of incarcerated criminal offenders with antisocial (e.g., psychopathic) traits, substance use disorders, and/or past traumatic events (including traumatic brain injury). Our studies also investigate the impact of treatment (e.g., cognitive skills training) as well long-term outcomes post-release from incarceration. Research coordinators are responsible for recruiting and scheduling participants, conducting clinical and neuropsychological assessments, and data organization/scoring/entry. Depending on interests and experience, training may also be provided in brain imaging (e.g., functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)) data collection and analysis. Opportunities are also available to become involved in and/or lead research papers and publications.
This position is primarily based in Santa Fe, NM, with four days/week spent collecting study data at the Penitentiary of New Mexico, and one day at the Mind Research Network in Albuquerque, NM for team meetings.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been attained. Candidates with a M.A are also encouraged to apply.
Must have demonstrated knowledge of psychological, socio-behavioral and/or neurobehavioral research principles, practices and protocols as well as knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures of basic medical and/or clinical research. Must have the ability to understand and follow basic scientific research protocols and procedures.
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed. Must have a high degree of professionalism, strong organizational and time-management skills. Work is performed in a dry laboratory environment. Will operate standard office equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 20 pounds. May interact with research participants.
Work is performed in correctional facilities. Will interact with incarcerated individuals.

Under the direct supervision of the SURE Center's Research Scientist, the Research Coordinator will be responsible for clinic-based and lab-based activities for the HBCD study. The clinic-based research activities include participant screening, obtaining informed consent, conducting interviews, and biospecimen collection. The lab-based activities include the collection, processing, aliquoting, analyzing, and delivery of urine, blood, saliva, and placental tissue biospecimens. The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. The long-term goal of the HBCD study is to gain better understanding of how child development is affected by exposures to environmental and social experiences and conditions. Under the direct supervision of the SURE Center's Research Scientist 3, the Research Coordinator will be responsible for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based and lab-based activities for the HBCD study. The MRI-based research activities include participant scheduling and the oversight of study visits, completing MRI safety screening with the assistance of MRI technicians, obtaining infant anthropometrics, administering questionnaires, and biospecimen collection. The lab-based activities include collection, processing, aliquoting, analyzing, and delivery of urine, blood, saliva, and possibly placental tissue biospecimens. This position is an integral part of the clinical research team to maintain oversight of research collection and specimens in accordance with protocols, uphold BSL-2 laboratory standards, and maintain regulatory and laboratory files, and oversee the process of data entry and quality assurance.
The Research Coordinator will work closely with UNM faculty to coordinate and complete assessments, and assist with assigned research protocols. The incumbent will also coordinate study-related procedures, including completion of structured interviews and data entry. He/she/they will work closely with the study consultants, co-investigators, and laboratory personnel.
This position requires the ability to work flexible hours, as required by studies. Flexible hours include either early morning and/or late evening hours. Rotated weekend coverage of research activities is also required within a 40-hour work week.
Duties, Requirements, and Responsibilities:
* Plan, implement, and maintain MRI study visit data collection, and documentation under the supervision of the PI and/or Co-Investigators.
