Responsibilities Prepares and/or oversees the preparation and dispensing of prescription medications; assesses the identity, strength, and purity of medications. Advises physicians and other health practitioners on drug indications/contraindications, dosage, drug interactions, and side effects; provides other drug and pharmaceutical information as appropriate. Maintains records such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, inventories, and control records; maintains methods and manner of storage and recordkeeping systems to provide for safekeeping of pharmaceuticals. Supervises, trains, monitors, and coordinates the activities of pharmacy technicians. Oversees the acquisition and disbursement of drugs and medications to various locations. Plans, implements, and maintains procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals according to policy and legal requirements to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
