Position Description: The Laboratory Scientist/Molecular Biologist shall perform, at a minimum, the following tasks and responsibilities in accordance with standard operating procedures:
Must be able to obtain/maintain a DHS Suitability security clearance
Handling, receipt, and processing of daily operational, Quality Assurance, verification and proficiency test samples potentially containing biological threat agents.
Receiving samples may require extended walking to/from laboratory areas and up and/or down several flights of stairs.
Samples may require being transferred from one area/cart/cooler to another, requiring staff to lift ~50-60 lbs.
Processing samples requires more than one (1) hour, but typically not to exceed four (4) hours, of repetitive motion (e.g. twisting/cutting/pipetting/gripping) on a regular, if not daily, basis.
Performing non-research biological science work utilizing microbiological and molecular techniques, which currently includes DNA extraction and real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) to identify and characterize pathogenic bacterial and viral agents (analytical methods and technologies may change over the life of the contract).
Laboratory workflow may occur in different laboratory areas (e.g., clean, high and low titer, under different conditions, such as BSL-2/BSL-3), utilizing a variety of biological safety cabinets (BSCs), and/or hoods (e.g., laminar or dead air).
Laboratory work may require several PPE changes including, but not limited to, respiratory and full body protection (e.g., Tyvek suit) and gloves, for extended periods of time, not to exceed four (4) hours.

Decontamination of workspaces, including Biological safety cabinets, hoods/air boxes, equipment, and other items associated with processing and analysis activities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
This position exists to provide support in lab research (molecular biology techniques and cell culture work) to the principle investigator and several graduate students and to maintain laboratory supplies and equipment. Specific projects such as: 1) Studying the role of MDA9 scaffold and signaling protein in breast cancer progression, sensitivity to chemotherapies, and antitumor immune response; 2) Studying epigenetic mechanisms on how cancer cells recover from from chemotherapy exposure; and 3.) further developing humanized mouse models. Project assignments will change as priorities of the laboratory change.
Day-to-day duties will include general lab maintenance including - ordering supplies, stocking shelves, cleaning glassware, autoclaving biohazard waste, cleaning the lab as needed. Experimental duties include molecular biology techniques including qPCR, Western blotting, cell culture assays, colony counting, etc…Analysis of data including the data entry into excel and similar programs, and simple data organization and formatting. Maintenance of a detailed and clear lab notebook.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
With provider guidance and direction, conducts one-on-one advanced, in-home health assessments with senior patients. Performing analyses using instruments in the on-site laboratory.
Analyses include biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), pH, etc.
Assisting production personnel with quality assurance investigations and reporting by performing analytical tests on raw materials, intermediate materials, finished product and wastes.
Preparing samples and shipping papers for sample transport to off-site laboratories.
Performing inspections of oil tanks, hazardous waste accumulation areas, and completing the checklists accurately.
Entering analytical results in a database or spreadsheet for reporting.

SUMMARY:
Purpose of the Job: Provide the highest quality support, care, and supervision for our senior residents by administering medications in accordance with each resident's individual care plan and state regulations in addition to, providing direct personal assistance and supervision.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Essential Job Responsibilities
1. Consistent and predictable attendance.
2. Dispense prescribed medications to residents according to doctors' written orders. Document properly.
3. Provide direct personal assistance and supervision needed by assisted living and memory care residents with their bathing, dressing, eating, walking, going up and down steps, smoking, and attending to any personal needs the residents may be unable to attend to themselves. Encourage and assist residents to care for their grooming, clothing, and toilet articles, including care of the body, hair, gums, teeth, dentures, fingernails, clothing, and personal items.
4. Document daily including, but not limited to, medication administration, nursing notes, communication with healthcare providers and family members/responsible parties.
5. Handle non-routine housekeeping tasks including, but not limited to, wiping up spills, doing laundry, emptying trash cans, changing sheets or assisting a resident in making their bed.
6. Respond immediately in case of an accident or incident involving a resident. Document incident.
7. Attend training as required as well as complete all Relias training as scheduled.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Information Required for Completely Satisfactory Performance:
* Knowledge of principles or processes for providing resident and personal care services.
* Knowledge of the 5 rights of medication administration--The Right: Drug, Dose, Route, Patient, Time.
* Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong with a resident.
* Ability to listen to and comprehend information and ideas presented from residents and family members.
* Ability to communicate ideas and information to residents and family members.
Education and Licenses: Requires the ability to use fractions, decimals, and commercial arithmetic. Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation is required. Equivalent to a 4-year U.S. high school education. Successful completion of all state-required courses and exams. Valid Medication Aide license except if working on provisional pending taking the state boards. Must have and maintain CPR and first aid certifications.
Experience: 0-3 months as a nursing assistant, home health aide, or eldercare volunteer.

* Learns to understand and follow departmental policies, rules, and instructions in emergency medical care delivery.
