ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior and academic achievement.
2. Keeps abreast of developments in Special Education curriculum, instruction, law, and regulations and disseminates information to Principals and student services staff.
3. Prepares and attends Individual Education Plan meetings
4. Monitors and assures special education regulation compliance in all special education files.
5. Ensures implementation of a working Child Study process in client school(s).
6. Works with Title I Coordinators to review and create action plans regarding the intervention programs at school.
7. Applies positive customer service to the role and is perceived as a team member by staff and school employees.
8. Maintains a high level of confidentiality concerning sensitive information.
9. Follows procedures for safe storing and integrity of all public and confidential school records.
10. Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel.
11. Report incidents regarding violence, vandalism, attendance and discipline matters to the Assistant Principal or Principal.
12. Notifies immediately appropriate personnel and agencies when there is evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or students appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
13. Report incidents regarding violence, vandalism, attendance and discipline matters to Administration.
14. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and /or courses as required by the supervisor.
15. Refrain from personal cell phone and personal Internet usage during class hours.
16. Performs such other related tasks and assumes such other related responsibilities as needed.

Job Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in education, concentration in special education or field of study related to special education.
2. Special Education Certification (Required)
3. Must hold a valid MI teaching certificate with a K-12 endorsement in an area of special education.
4. Be able to manage and consult as lead in special education department.
5. Experience conducting IEPs, state reporting, and documentation
6. Three or more years work experience with special education students.
7. Strong interpersonal skills.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
9. Experience with Special Education compliance with MDE and Federal regulations.
10. Experience with technology and Microsoft Office software.
11. Ability to interact with students, parents and staff in a positive and productive manner.
12. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
13. Ability to work a flexible schedule as required.
14. Valid Michigan Driver's License. Incumbent must also have reliable means of transportation to travel to various locations outside of the office.
15. Must complete FBI fingerprinting and a satisfactory criminal background check must be received, as well as successful unprofessional conduct check.

ABOUT THE OPPORUNITY/WORK
The Family Preservation Assistant is responsible for assuming responsibilities common to all administrative and direct service positions as described in the Agency Manual. The incumbent to this position will establish and maintain positive/productive relationships with MDHHS, caregivers, the service providers and staff. The position reports to the Director of Family Preservation.
Develop and maintain spreadsheets relating to medicals, dentals, days of care and documentation for RDMA.
Monitor and log all medical, dental, and legal documents as required to comply with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and legal standards.
Answer the phones in the office and assist clients as needed.
Assist with opening and closing out files, ongoing filing, uploading documents in the MiSACWIS system and sending out letters to caregivers and community partners to ensure our compliance.
Conduct follow-up phone calls to dentist offices, medical offices, caregivers regarding appointments or documentation that is required.
Assist the casework staff in provision of services to clients including assistance in diminishing barriers to obtaining necessary paperwork.
Support parenting time visits by watching visits, documenting the visits in MiSACWIS and transporting children, as needed.
Attend staff meetings, general staff meetings and conferences for professional development.
Participate in outreach and recruitment efforts.
Represent the agency in a positive manner.

Has a clear understanding of the enrollment documents, parent handbook and affiliated websites needed for the process.
Has enrollment packets ready and available at all times and to be distributed in person or via email.
In partnership with the site manager, effectively manage a robust enrollment tracking system for all inquiries that is updated frequently, organized and includes specific information about the family inquiries.
Responds promptly to all incoming inquiries through phone calls and emails. Frequently communicates with the site manager regarding the status of contacts that may need manager follow-up.
Maintains consistent contact with leads through phone calls, emails, and personalized correspondence to address questions and guide them through the process.
Schedules time with families to help with registration, complete paperwork and provide other resources as needed.
Keeps enrollment documents organized and carefully reviews all required paperwork to be sure it has been completed thoroughly. Maintains copies for the child files and for the teachers' files when assigned. Manages up to site manager if there are challenges with obtaining the necessary paperwork. This will include DHHS approvals, child contact sheets, health appraisals, etc.
Plans and coordinates time for tours, weekly open houses and events in partnership with the site manager and leadership.
Thoughtfully preplans for all events and tours considering i.e., what set-up is needed, is collateral ready, do we have giveaways, is the center tour ready, is there a clean and organized space to review forms and answer questions, inform staff, refreshments ready, activity for the child to do, etc.
Seeks out management, as needed, for inquiries who may have language barriers or the need for other resources i.e., having collateral available in other languages. Keeps a thorough and organized wait list for the Tuition Program, Great Start Readiness Program and Summer Camp Keeps in contact with the families for updates and communication purposes.
In partnership with the site manager, reviews referrals from Oakland Schools for the GSRP program. Makes plans to follow up with the leads immediately and track all outcomes.
Seeks information from Oakland Schools on any upcoming community events and fairs. Manages up to the site manager to coordinate attending event. Coordinates with marketing on events for social media purposes.
Provides ongoing support and communication with families regarding admission status for funded and tuition programming.
Coordinates time for outreach, including reviewing the current contact list, researching new leads, and preparing to distribute agency collateral.

As the assistant teacher in a classroom you will be expected to assist the lead teacher with any work related tasks. Keeping children safe and learning, build relationships with parents, maintaining a clean, loving, friendly environment and being awesome are a few requirements to be on this team.
