Job Summary
Design and teach a high quality, culturally competent, project-based curriculum, engaging students in reading, writing, math and science throughout the six-week summer enrichment program. Lead Teachers are an integral part of the Horizons team, working with all of the other Lead Teachers, the Teacher Assistants, Instructional Assistant, Interns and volunteers. The staff is supported by the Program and Site Directors. There will be a Lead Teacher, an Assistant Teacher, and an Instructional Assistant or Intern in each classroom. The primary goal of Horizons is to reverse the trend of summer learning loss that adversely impacts the long-term success of underserved students. The Lead Teacher will work with one class of fifteen students that range from 1st through 8th grade. The Lead Teacher will supervise a team that consists of a Teacher Assistant and an Instructional Assistant.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists with supervising Instructional Team: Assistant Teachers, Instructional Assistants, and Interns,
2. Assists instructional team in developing curriculum in pre-planning meetings
3. Co-coordinates scheduling of educational presentations, weekly study and field trips, swimming lessons, and in-house enrichment sessions
4. Assists with student assessments
5. Establishes and maintains effective parent communication
6. Observes student engagement, academically and socio-emotionally, to converse with instructional team regarding interventions and student-centered solutions
7. Supervises assistant teachers, instructional assistants, and interns.
8. Interacts and works with KSU faculty and staff as needed regarding the Horizons program
9. Design and implement a project-based curriculum that included reading, writing, math, and science for rising 1st through 8th graders
10. Plan, lead, and facilitate fun learning activities that challenge students through community building games, experiential learning opportunities, field trips, and family nights
11. Develop activities for three groups of students to be led by three adults in the classroom
12. Mentor the Teacher Assistants to understand data and learning goals for each student
13. Assist in the training, development, and supervision of program staff, including assisting with sharing instructional strategies and student information
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor s degree in education from an accredited institution of higher education
Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid and unrestricted Georgia teaching certificate
Current, valid and unrestricted driver's license
Required Experience
Experience teaching in a school setting
Experience designing curriculum in a child-centered, risk-free environment for Kindergarten through Eighth-grade students

What you bring as a Team Member:
