POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Chemist II is responsible for performing accurate formulation and analytical tests in accordance with Internal LATICRETE, ANSI, and ASTM procedures and/or other accepted methods. The Chemist II conducts increasingly complex experiments on organic and/or inorganic compounds and materials. The Chemist II must demonstrate technical knowledge and techniques in a specific area and an understanding of projects with respect to organization, research, production and operations. With supervisor oversight, they are expected to use independent judgment within specific area to determine appropriate approach to project work. Additionally, the role identifies new ingredients, suggest quality control tests for new products, and may recommend improvements in analytical equipment, procedures, and techniques. The Chemist II may also represent R&D during product line meetings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, Develop and Validate - (65%)
Under general supervision, formulate products to meet specified requirements.
Devise and conduct experiments to solve increasingly complex problems.
May evaluate and suggest new raw materials through increasing communication with raw material suppliers.
Review and perform competitive testing and analysis as required.
Maintain a clean working laboratory environment as well as properly working equipment. Ensure that all instruments that required periodic calibration and validation requirements do so per laboratory calibration/validation procedures.

Provide Product Support - (20%)

The individual should be creative to develop new approaches to material testing and characterization.

Performs and evaluate approximately 25 complex, quantitative analytical procedures to determine the identity and concentration of drugs, metabolites, poisons, and other toxins which may be present, utilizing computerized instrumentation and proper analytical techniques. Reviews instrument function and analytical results for accuracy and appropriateness; performs additional analytical tests as indicated by initial testing; maintains detailed records of all work sufficient to verify that work product meets scientific and legal requirements.
2. Develops and maintains active quality control/quality assurance programs to document validity and quality of analytical results; assists in development and validation of new analytical procedures; remains current in technical knowledge; train new chemists; and preserves the quality and maintain the integrity of evidence to ensure the validity of analytical results; and selects appropriate specimen for analysis; and
3. Prepares laboratory reagents and standards; maintains an adequate level of supplies and equipment; and maintains, calibrate, troubleshoot and repair specialized laboratory instrumentation.
4. Evaluates analytical assays and specific assay results for the purpose of initial reporting.
5. Manages and prioritizes a large volume of analyses performed in common bench space with common instrumentation.
6. Provides on-call emergency holiday and weekend analytical services as needed by the Medical Examiner's Office.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Chemistry, or in a job related field of study. Two (2) years of analytical laboratory experience.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and/or repair specialized laboratory instrumentation; degree level knowledge of mathematics and chemistry; skilled in the use of standard laboratory techniques; knowledge of chemical and biological safe handling procedures; must possess good oral and written communication skills for lay, legal, and technical audiences; ability to work well with others; working knowledge of computers. Must pass an extensive background investigation. Must have a valid Texas Drivers License and good driving record. Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. Job Summary
As we continue to push the boundaries of what's possible in innovative solutions for the building materials industry, we are currently in the exciting phase of building out a specialized team dedicated to advancing Asphalt Technology-focused on expanding our understanding of asphaltic based materials and the interactions with other materials for the roofing and waterproofing industry.
We are looking for an Analytical Chemist to join our R&D team near the Dallas, Texas Metro area. The individual will lead technical projects in the Analytical Laboratory. The Analytical Lab is expected to develop new methods and technologies for testing asphalt, asphalt additives, petroleum based materials, polymers and process by-products and apply a solid knowledge of molecular structure and property relationships and various chemical techniques to deformulate coatings and adhesive formulations for shingle products and applications. This individual will also have the ability to utilize, adapt and develop new methods for analytical techniques such as GPC, HPLC, FTIR, UV-vis, rheometry, TGA, DSC, DMA and other instrumentation to evaluate the properties, characteristics, performance and durability of asphaltic materials. The individual should be creative to develop new approaches to material testing and characterization.

Qualifications Required
* BS Degree in Analytical Chemistry or related science with a minimum of 6 years relevant work experience Required OR MS Degree in Analytical Chemistry or related science with a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience OR Ph.D. Degree in Analytical Chemistry or related science
* 1-3 years of experience as an Analytical Scientist/Chemist, which may include graduate research level work.
