What is a checker in and how to become one

A checker in or cashier rings up groceries and other goods at a retail store. Your job duties include totaling the price of all goods for a customer, collecting payment for the items, assisting the customer with the bagging of their purchases, and making changes for cash transactions. You are also to stock shelves and mark prices on items, count money at the beginning and end of work shifts. You may weigh items, bag merchandise, issue trading stamps, and redeem food stamps and promotional coupons. In most positions, you must report the day's transactions to management.

The qualifications you need as a checker often include a high school diploma, previous experience in cash handling, customer service skills, and a firm grasp of basic mathematics. You should also have the ability to remain on your feet for long periods. You will earn an average of $38,040 annually.
