Job Description
Attend to the spiritual, emotional, psychosocial and cultural needs of patients, patients families, staff and volunteers of the assigned facility and Lee Health system.
Job Responsibilities:
Provides spiritual care in such a way as to accomplish the institutional, as well as the departmental objectives. Functions in such a manner that reflects the mission and vision of the institution.
Works independently in the context of a strong spiritual services team and in cooperation with the interdisciplinary clinical team to provide quality services resulting in high patient satisfaction.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a safe environment and communicate effectively with all age groups of patients served by the Spiritual Services Department.
Effectively utilizes ones pastoral authority in establishing and maintaining pastoral and professional relationships.
Conducts spiritual assessments, care, and counseling.
Show compassions and respect for the dignity of each person demonstrating compassionate communication and listening skills.
Works to offer support in crisis, loss, trauma situations and circumstances with multiple priorities.
Participates in after hour and weekend on-call rotation.
Participates in delivering and arranging appropriate pastoral care to patients, their loved ones by meeting ritual and sacramental needs. Participate in monthly staff meetings.
Participates in regular professional development activities.
Recruits, trains and oversee Spiritual Services volunteers.
Discern and actively participates in ethical issues including familiarity with the professional guidelines for the Chaplains role on health care ethics. Also, strictly adheres to the Code of Ethics of the individuals professional association.
Requirements
Education: Masters degree in divinity or theology from a fully accredited university or seminary is required. Verification of a minimum of four units of clinical pastoral education (CPE) by an accredited Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) center is required.
Experience: 1 year of experience as a functioning chaplain preferred.
Certification: Board certification or eligible for board certification within two years of employment by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, the Association of Professional Chaplains, or the National Association of Jewish Chaplains is required.
License: N/A
Other: A current letter of Denominational or Ecclesiastical Endorsement by the applicants faith group is required.

The chaplain provides emotional support, spiritual counsel and comfort in addressing the spiritual needs of patients as assigned. **Qualifications:**
Master's Theological degree (e.g. Master of Divinity (MDiv/equivalency as established by the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) from an accredited seminary of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) Minimum of four units Clinical Pastoral Education from an Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) approved center with the exception of faith group specific applicants for whom CPE is not required. In these cases, the applicant must complete four ACPE units within two years of hire and become Board Certified within four years of hire. An applicant of a current ACPE Resident with three completed units of Clinical Pastoral Education must complete the fourth CPE unit within 1 year of hire.
Strong verbal and written communication skills required, including computer skills. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience preferred. Two years working experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Preferred education: Master's/Advanced Degree in related fields (e.g. Master's in Public Health (MPH; advanced research degree and Masters in Philosophy/Ethics which is common in seminary/religious/ethical education training).
Knowledge in Spiritual Care Research preferred.

Endorsement for service as a Chaplain by appropriate faith community. Come be a part of a growing spiritual care team for the largest faith based healthcare organization in South Florida - Baptist Health South Florida. Our Clinical Pastoral Education program sits on the campus shared by Boca Raton Regional Hospital and Lynn Cancer Institute on the southern end of tropical Palm Beach County, Florida. We are 2.5 hours north of Key West and 2.5 hours south of Orlando and Disney World. A plethora of opportunities are offered to residents to provide ministry to patients, family members and staff from rich religious and culturally diverse populations in various clinical specialties. Our CPE program is also part of the Center for the Advancement of Learning division of Baptist Health South Florida. We take education seriously and focus on giving our participants quality training in a supportive and encouraging learning environment that fosters growth and allows room for curiosity and innovation.
Chaplain residents will have a responsibility to provide spiritual care to patients, families, staff and visitors in assigned clinical areas and as referrals and urgent requests are given (60-65%). They will also be given 10-12 hours per week (25-30%) to attend required Clinical Pastoral Education class sessions as part of their training. Residents may work with two ACPE Certified Educators during their training period with BHSF, but general oversight of all administrative, professional and educational functions is provided by the Director of Clinical Pastoral Education.
Program is targeted to begin on August 2025.
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred in Divinity, or theological studies. Applicants must have at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education to apply for the residency. Active enrollment in a BHSF CPE program is required. It is helpful to have obtained a Master of Divinity degree or a Master of Arts in Religion or Theological studies (or equivalent), but not required. Applicants need to be proficient in English, and communicate well in oral and written forms. They should be receptive to learning and open to new things. Applicants should have a willingness to give and receive feedback in a relational manner and to reflect theologically. Additional Experience:

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Hospice Chaplain, you will:
You will report directly to the Administrator or Executive Director.
You will be responsible for the spiritual services provided to hospice patients and families.
Participate in developing the interdisciplinary care plan.
Visit patients/families identified as appropriate for spiritual care services and provides direct spiritual support, counsel, prayer, and ministry as appropriate.

A minimum of one unit of Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE)-accredited CPE.

Additional Experience:

Assists the Inter-disciplinary team to understand the significance of spiritual factors related to the patients care.

1 Master of Divinity degree or similar graduate degree from a Seminary accredited by the American Association of Theological Seminaries, or the American Association of Theological schools, and a minimum of three units (3) of CPE or equivalent (as recognized by ACPE, APC, NACC, NAJC, CPSP, or CPE-International).
2. Five years of experience as either a pastor or chaplain in a Hospice House and/or Trauma Unit.
3. Knowledge and Abilities:
a) Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the Hospice philosophy of care and the Hospice team concept
b) Able to assess data reflecting the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to their spiritual needs.
Ability to work comfortably in a non-denominational or multi-denominational environment.
d) Knowledge of multi-cultural beliefs and practices.
