This position will be scheduled for evenings, night, rotating weekend and on call shifts. Primary assignments will be in the Emergency Department and Inpatient Hospital setting and will include one weekday overnight on call shift/week (Fridays) and 1-2 weekend shifts/month. SUMMARYProvides Spiritual Care services for Hennepin County Medical Center. RESPONSIBILITIES Delivers or arranges appropriate spiritual care to patients, families, and staff, including the assessment of spiritual needs, the timely response to referrals, and the effective documentation of each encounter in the electronic medical record. Provides crisis support to patients, families, and staff during Emergency Department Stabilization Room activations, Medical Emergencies, and other critical situations. Provides spiritual care to patients/families during end-of-life situations and bereavement support to families following a death. Provides education programs and/or consultation to HCMC staff related to spirituality, family communication, ethical decision-making, resilience, end-of-life care, etc. Works within the Spiritual Care Department to facilitate the team's ability to meet its goals and objectives by participating in the daily team huddle and monthly staff meeting, serving on quality improvement work groups, and engaging in regular professional development activities and supervision. Provides spiritual and emotional support to HCMC staff, including the provision of Psychological First Aid following a critical incident, participation in the hospital Critical Incident Support team, and the facilitation of employee support groups and memorial services. Supports an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care by participating in unit rounds and meetings, serving on hospital committees, and working to ensure that the unique spiritual, religious, and cultural needs of patients and families are addressed QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree of at least 30 credits from a CHEA accredited (or international equivalent) institution in a content area relevant to chaplaincy. RESPONSIBILITIES

Delivers or arranges appropriate spiritual care to patients, families, and staff, including the assessment of spiritual needs, the timely response to referrals, and the effective documentation of each encounter in the electronic medical record.

Provides crisis support to patients, families, and staff during Emergency Department Stabilization Room activations, Medical Emergencies, and other critical situations.

Provides spiritual care to patients/families during end-of-life situations and bereavement support to families following a death.

Provides education programs and/or consultation to HCMC staff related to spirituality, family communication, ethical decision-making, resilience, end-of-life care, etc.

Works within the Spiritual Care Department to facilitate the team's ability to meet its goals and objectives by participating in the daily team huddle and monthly staff meeting, serving on quality improvement work groups, and engaging in regular professional development activities and supervision.

Provides spiritual and emotional support to HCMC staff, including the provision of Psychological First Aid following a critical incident, participation in the hospital Critical Incident Support team, and the facilitation of employee support groups and memorial services.

Supports an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care by participating in unit rounds and meetings, serving on hospital committees, and working to ensure that the unique spiritual, religious, and cultural needs of patients and families are addressed

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree of at least 30 credits from a CHEA accredited (or international equivalent) institution in a content area relevant to chaplaincy. Acceptable concentrations would include but not be limited to theology, study of sacred texts, medical or professional ethics, psychology, sociology, counseling, world religions, organizational development, and the relationship of spirituality and health

At least 800 hours of clinical training in spiritual/pastoral care such as Clinical Pastoral Education

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years' experience in hospital, hospice, or ministerial setting

Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains or Spiritual Care Association

Certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, or Spiritual Care Association, or certification eligibility and must obtain certification within two years of date of hire
