RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Navy Chaplain, your job spans a broad range of duties. You will support fellow servicemembers during their most joyful and most difficult moments. Your responsibilities might be to:
Conduct worship services in a variety of settings
Perform religious rites and ceremonies such as weddings, funeral services and baptisms
Counsel individuals who seek guidance
Oversee religious education programs, such as Sunday school and youth groups

The Spiritual Care Coordinator / Chaplain is a professional position responsible for the provision of spiritual care services to all WDH patients, families, and caregivers, acknowledging and respecting their beliefs, culture, and values. Training & Advancement
Upon completion of initial training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes (known as Boot Camp), those pursuing a Religious Program Specialist role report to the Naval Chaplaincy School & Center at Newport, RI, where they receive formal Navy training at "A" School for 8 weeks. From there, Religious Program Specialists attend "C" School for 5 weeks of Marine combat training.
Promotion opportunities are regularly available but competitive and based on performance.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required to become an Enlisted Sailor as an RP in the Navy. Religious Program Specialists must be supportive of clergy and people of all faiths, set high standards and be of good moral character.

Part-Time Opportunities
Serving part-time as a Navy Reserve Sailor, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Religious Program Specialists in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes.
For Annual Training, Religious Program Specialists may serve anywhere in the world, whether on a ship at sea, bases and installations on shore or in the field. Take a moment to learn more about the general roles and responsibilities of Navy Reserve Sailors .
Most of what you do in the Navy Reserve is considered training. The basic Navy Reserve commitment involves training a minimum of one weekend a month (referred to as drilling) and two weeks a year (referred to as Annual Training) - or the equivalent of that.

As a Hospice Chaplain:
Reports directly to the Administrator or Executive Director.
Responsible for the spiritual services provided to hospice patients and families.
Participate in developing the interdisciplinary care plan.
Visit patients/families identified as appropriate for spiritual care services and provides direct spiritual support, counsel, prayer, and ministry as appropriate.
Assist members of the interdisciplinary team in understanding the significant spiritual concerns related to the patient/family response to dying.
Serve as liaison and resource for community spiritual leaders in dealing with hospice patient/family.

About You
The candidate must meet ONE of the following requirements:
BS or BA in theology, religion, human services, counseling, psychology, or sociology from a college or university and/or as required by state-specific regulations.
A Master's Degree in counseling, psychology, theology or divinity from a college or university and/or as required by state-specific regulations. (Preferred.)
A minimum of one unit of Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE)-accredited CPE.
Note a degree received from an accredited college/university is preferred. If the degree is received from a non-accredited college or university, AVPO approval is required prior to hire.
Additional Experience:
Two years of active work in spiritual care ministry/ program, one unit of pastoral education (per state requirements, if indicated), and demonstrated ability to work with patients, families, and community spiritual leaders of various denominations/beliefs is required.
Three years of active work in hospice spiritual care support and one year of clinical pastoral education is preferred.

Participates in the Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program. The Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program is, as the title implies, both clinical and educational. Residents are selected from among applicants who have had adequate training and experience to enable them to provide spiritual care to patients, families and staff in the System. Residents are trained for advanced professional work in spiritual care. The resident is paid a stipend which enables this year of clinical education. They are thus employees who serve as chaplains providing care for patients, families and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Educational Responsibilities:* Residents will attend all CPE seminars.* Residents are responsible to submit all written materials on time.* Residents are required to, in good faith, fully participate in the CPE seminars/curriculum.* Residents are responsible for managing their own personal/professional growth needs and communicating these to their peers/supervisor.* Fulfillment of responsibilities as listed in “Student Rights and Responsibilities.” (Student Handbook section 3A)
Clinical Assignments:* Residents will be assigned as the chaplain responsible for spiritual care to patients, families and staff within a given service line. This ministry may include both in- and out-patient spiritual care. They will normally keep those assignments throughout the year.* If a clinical area/service line has interdisciplinary rounds, residents will be expected to attend as schedules permit. Administratively the educational program will try to be planned around these times.* Residents are required to keep a statistical record of their visits and other activities on a Clinical Ministry Record and/or the “Encounter Card” provided by the department.* Other chaplains are expected to get approval from the designated chaplain in a service line before visiting or following up on a patient in that area.* Interaction with patient's home clergy when necessary is expected with patient's permission.
On-Call Expectations: * Full-time residents are expected to administrate the on-call program in cooperation with chaplain interns, night ministry staff and the administrative assistant. * When applicable, the on-call resident will be responsible for Pre-Operative spiritual care visits. However, other residents, chaplain interns and staff may be available to make these calls, if possible. * It is the responsibility of the on-call chaplain to answer all traumas, codes, deaths, requests for visits, as well as round through all nursing units when on-call.
Organizational Responsibilities:* Residents will receive a stipend, the amount of which is stipulated in their letter of acceptance. They will also receive health and other benefits as provided by WellSpan Health.* Residents are responsible for attending employee and CPE orientation and meetings on safety, security and infection control, and documenting their attendance.* Residents are responsible for becoming familiar with the department and WellSpan Health policies and procedures and being accountable for such to her/his supervisor.* Residents are responsible for providing orientation, tour of facilities and feedback to supervisor in the interview process of residency applicants.* Residents will maintain their year-long commitment to the CPE residency program.
