Mercy is hiring Patient Care Associates for a new Medical Telemetry Unit which will be apart of the Medical Surgical Service Line and will specialize in providing care to both telemetry and cardiac medical-surgical patients, utilizing in-room telemetry monitors to ensure comprehensive and continuous cardiac monitoring.
Shifts: Days and Nights with the rotations weekends/holidays
Full-time - 36 hours per week
Part-time - 24 hours per week
Part-time - 12 hours pers week

Overview:
Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient’s highest level of wellness. Role Purpose
Performs an expanded perioperative role as a first assistant to surgeons during surgical procedures in the operating room. RNFA works alongside the surgeon to provide direct patient care. Works as a professional colleague with the perioperative team and collaborates with the patient-designated support person, and other health care providers when making decisions to plan care.
Responsibilities
Delivers intraoperative patient care as the first assistant to the surgeon(s) as a collaborative team member. Pre-operatively performs a focused nursing assessment in reference to planned procedure. Analyzes the assessment data to determine nursing diagnosis. Identifies and communicates desired patient outcomes throughout the perioperative continuum.
Functions as a member of the surgical team and contribute to the overall efficiency of the peri-operative department. Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, efficiency, the environments, and the cost in planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care.
Monitors patients response and modifies plan of care accordingly. Administers Medications according to standard nursing practice. Develops and manages an individual plan of care that directs the intervention(s) of the RNFA. Implements, manages, and coordinates the perioperative plan of care related to RNFA interventions. Evaluates patient progress towards attaining outcomes. Systematically evaluates quality of nursing practice.
Participates in professional development and life long learning. Seeks out and participates in learning opportunities. Evaluates their practice in context with current professional practice standards, rules and regulations. Contributes to the professional growth of peers, colleagues and others.
Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum to include patient and family education. Incorporates research findings into practice. Practices in an ethical manner using available resources to formulate ethical decisions. The Medical Assistant is an unlicensed medical professional cross-trained to perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the medical centers running smoothly. The duties of Medical Assistant vary from setting to setting, depending on the size, location and type. In addition to administrative duties, Care Promoters perform clinical duties under direct physician supervision in accordance with state medical practice acts. The Medical Assistant supports our Physician-lead Care Teams that are focused on providing excellent and comprehensive primary care for a specific population of patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Measures and records patient vital signs; records patient interview and medical history.
Catalogs and communicates patient needs to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and/or other clinical personnel.
Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests; assists physician with exams; explains treatment procedures and physicians' instructions to patient.
Observes patients and reports any changes in patient conditions to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and/or other clinical personnel.
Perform non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instructions. Collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens; performs basic waived lab tests.
Prepares and administers medications; changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures; uses CPR skills when necessary, all under physician supervision.
Maintains supplies, equipment, stocks and sterilizes instruments; practices OSHA safety standards; performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
Processes patient phone messages, returning calls and routing them to other team members as appropriate; calls patients to obtain and relay pertinent information for the physician.
Upon physician approval and authorization, calls in prescriptions to the pharmacy. Uses communication skills with appropriate medical terminology; and follows appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct; authorized individuals will use the ChenMed Rx system to support physician medication dispensing.
Provides health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices. Follows up with coached patients via weekly calls.
Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager's discretion.

Must be detail-oriented to ensure accuracy of reports and data
Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
Ability to act calmly in busy or stressful situations
Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel plus a variety of other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentation software
Ability and willingness to travel locally and/or regionally up to 80% of the time to assist in covering other centers, as needed
Spoken and written fluency in English
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:
High school diploma or equivalent education (GED) required
Graduation from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR comparable healthcare vocational training (i.e. foreign-trained physician, paramedic, etc.) required
A minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician or similar in a hospital, medical clinic or comparable environment OR documented clinical rotation training can be substituted for work experience
Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus
EMR system experience preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AMA) or American Red Cross required w/in first 90 days of employment

Education
