GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: United Digestives (UD) Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and management with all clinical, clerical, and organizational tasks revolving around patient care. General Purpose: Perform direct resident care duties under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel. The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) provides hands-on supervision of caregiver staff during their shift, ensure provision of quality resident care, and uphold residence philosophy and resident well-being. The CMA will properly administer scheduled medications to residents in accordance with state regulations and Oaks Senior Living policy. Administer medications to residents according to their Medication Observation Record (MOR) and protect resident privacy. Provide residents with any treatments required as part of their Resident Care Plan as designated. Document clearly and accurately on the Medication Observation Record (MOR) after a medication is taken/given, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, returned, following the Oaks Senior Livening policy. 3. Respect the residents' right to refuse medication/treatment. Protect the residents' safety with medications. Explain to the resident what medication is being given and why, prior to assisting with medication. 4. Observe the resident for any adverse reaction to a medication and report it to the Wellness Director and/or the Executive Director immediately. Report all medication errors honestly and immediately. Communications 1. Attend all regular staff meetings and required in-service training sessions. 2. Effectively communicate residents' needs with caregiver staff at change of shift according to the Oaks Senior Living policies and procedures. Effectively communicate to the Wellness Director and/or the Executive Director any changes noted in a resident's condition or behavior, adverse reaction to a medication, any resident or family member concerns, complaints, refusal of a medication, any errors noted on the Medication Administration Record (MAR). 3. Ensure required paperwork for providing resident care is completed and up-to-date. 4. Communication with Pharmacy regarding resident medication/information on an as-needed basis. Assists residents with activities of daily living, provides for personal care, comfort, and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment for an assigned group of residents. This position will care for patients in the adult and geriatric age groups. Employee performs clinical duties in accordance with population specific guidelines and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined in policy and procedures. Takes vitals and tube feeding. Provides personal care such as bathing, shampoo, nail care, mouth care, as directed by the patient's plan of care in accordance with service procedures and assists patient's with necessary self help skills, leaving the patient's immediate environment neat and clean. Utilizes proper body mechanics, provides for positioning, mobility, or comfort needs. Contributes to patient safety and reports potential problems/concepts to the Patient Care Manager/RN/Therapist. Ensures resident equipment is accessible to resident (i.e., call bell, water pitcher, assistive devices). Ensures resident activity and other worksheets are completed appropriately. Stores equipment and supplies in compliance with policies and procedures. Reports all complaints and grievances made by patient or family members to charge nurse, ADON, DON, or Administrator. Responsible for storing resident's personal items properly. Assist in washing resident's clothes. Run errands to other departments to deliver or pick-up items, if requested. May assist with housekeeping duties such as cleaning tables, refrigerator.
