The School District Health Coordinator / School Nurse will play a dual role within the district, serving as both a direct-care nurse at one of the district's K-8 schools and as a district-wide health coordinator responsible for supporting school-based health services. This position includes overseeing health policies, training staff on procedures, ensuring compliance with district and state health regulations, and promoting student and staff wellness.
As the District Health Coordinator, this role will focus on supporting all schools within the district by providing guidance on health and safety policies, procedures, and record-keeping. The role also includes organizing training programs for school nurses and other staff to ensure best practices in student health management and compliance with Texas state laws. As the School Nurse, this individual will provide direct nursing care to students, manage chronic health conditions, administer medications, and respond to health emergencies, ensuring students receive the care they need in a safe school environment.
1. School District Health Coordination:
Health Policy Development: Assist in the development, implementation, and review of health-related policies and procedures for the district, ensuring compliance with Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines.
Training & Support: Conduct training sessions for staff, and administrators on health policies, emergency procedures, and effective record-keeping. Ensure all school personnel are informed and equipped to handle health-related situations.
Health Record Keeping & Compliance: Ensure all health records are accurately maintained district-wide, including immunizations, health screenings, and individual health plans. Provide support to schools in maintaining student health documentation and compliance with federal and state regulations.
District Health Audits: Perform regular audits of student health records across all schools to ensure proper documentation and compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
Emergency Management: Collaborate with the district's emergency response team to develop and review school emergency protocols, including health-related emergency responses (e.g., pandemics, lockdowns, natural disasters).
2. Direct School Nursing Care (at a designated school):
Student Health Care: Provide direct care to students who are ill, injured, or experiencing health concerns. Administer first aid and medications, and provide health assessments as needed.
Chronic Health Management: Manage the health care of students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies) by creating individualized health care plans in collaboration with families and ensuring that appropriate support is in place.
Health Screenings: Conduct mandated health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis) and document results in accordance with Texas state regulations. Follow up with families on any required treatments or referrals.

The Opportunity
One Medical's High Risk team is looking for a In-Field Medical Assistant (internally known as a Field Care Coordinator) to support our patients with care outside of the traditional clinic setting - in their home and telephonically after an acute inpatient event and as part of routine primary care services. Reporting to the Manager, Tele-Assist Operations, Field Care Coordinators go into patients' homes to facilitate telehealth visits with a provider in order to reach more of our patients where they live. The work may also include supporting and facilitating access to community resources and service agencies necessary to promote patient health and well-being. You will also assist in teaching patients and family members to use technology to coordinate care with their care teams, as needed.

Coordinate care with patients, families and other outside care teams (specialists, home health, etc.) as needed. Connect patients to state and local community resources related to housing, transportation, food, and activities of daily living among other social and physical barriers to health.
Assist patients and their families to fully participate in healthcare services, as well as navigate and use community services or other resources in support of their goals. Assist patients with completion of applications for accessing eligible benefits and resources

Essential Duties
The Instructor will teach a variety of courses within the Clinical Medical Assisting (CMA) Program. The position prepares and provides lecture, laboratory, and clinical instruction according to the required curriculum established by Alvin Community College (ACC). This position requires the individual to follow the current course outlines, objectives, evaluation mechanisms for the medical assisting program and procedures within the classroom and laboratory. The instructor constantly evaluates their effectiveness in the classroom by helping students obtain course learning outcomes and the impact that they have on student retention in the Clinical Medical Assisting Program.
Teaches a variety of medical assisting courses which may be scheduled days, nights, weekends and/or online
Provides educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled class times
Provides classroom and clinical instruction using a variety of teaching strategies to achieve course and program learning outcomes
Observes students in the clinical setting as needed
Prepares and distributes course outline / syllabi to students
Maintains relationships with clinical affiliates to ensure excellent learning opportunities for students
Maintains a time and effort report of daily activities for grants reporting

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•High school diploma or GED
•Must hold a current medical assistant certification or State of Texas nursing license

•Experience in phlebotomy, immunizations, venipuncture injections, wound care, GYN procedures, direct patient care procedures and vital signs
•Must have current, valid Driver's License
