Job Description: Caterpillar is hiring 3 Senior Design Engineers in Decatur IL. In this role you will have L4 system design responsibility of LWL/CWD Large Structures based on L6 (down-selected) system QVC requirements. Active engagement in CPPD (Concurrent Product and Process Development) across multiple L4 and L6 teams. Responsibilities Ownership of Large Structures design (QVC) for LWL/WDC NPI, CPI with acute focus on Design for Manufacturing to improve automation efficiency thru-out the supply chain (BTS , Robot, CNC machining and Paint). Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detailed designs via active CPPD. Active participation in Go See Act workshops during Pilot and Pre-Production Large Structures builds. Ownership and accountability to PMO based project plans; communicating status with Team Leader, stakeholders and participating functional areas. Set based design solution recommendations to resolving problems. Degree Requirement A Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Agricultural/Aerospace/Metallurgical engineering with relevant work experience. What Skills you will have: Products and Services: Functional understanding and demonstrated knowledge of key aspects of RI Large Structures designs and services (Aftermarket). Technical Excellence: Proficient use of CREO. Functional understanding of Large structures specific print GD& T including fixturing design for finished weldments and right level machining. Fundamental understanding of structural Weldments design of thick walled Castings, thick plates (25mm and above), Wear and Abrasive material specs on Work tools. Deep passion and working knowledge of BTS (Laser /Plasma/Gas 1st and 2nd Ops) to maximize Robotic automation of such structural weldments including advanced post weld treatment techniques to manage/optimize structural weight and fuel efficiency. Functional understanding of various application based Static/Dynamic loading of Large structures (EEF, NEEF, Linkages, Buckets, WTs, Bodies and liners, Pins/Bearings/seals and lubricants, etc.) for major RI products. Requirements Analysis: Relevant work experience demonstrating L4 design based on L6 down-selected requirements. Knowledge of FEA, working knowledge of manufacturing BTS/robotic/CNC programming methods. Influencing Through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization. Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives. Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment. Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. Job Description: Caterpillar Decatur is currently Hiring 3 Manufacturing Engineers. As a manufacturing Engineer you will provide support and guidance on all aspects of production, costs, quality, compliance to safety guidelines, and environmental requirements for manufacturing. Responsibilities Participating in identifying and implementing enhancements and modifications to equipment and processes. Monitoring equipment and process reliability; identifying and addressing problem areas. Analyzing engineering change notices, determines any part or process change, initiates and implements all changes. Providing engineering support on planning, development, operation, and maintenance of equipment, processes, or facilities. Top Candidates will have: Engineering or engineering technology degree Extensive Experience as a manufacturing Engineer What Skills you will have: Decision Making and Critical Thinking: • Assesses and validates decision options and points and predicts their potential impact. • Advises others in analyzing and synthesizing relevant data and assessing alternatives. • Uses effective decision-making approaches such as consultative, command, or consensus. • Ensures that assumptions and received wisdom are objectively analyzed in decisions. Lean Manufacturing: • Discusses considerations for work cell design and effectiveness monitoring. • Finds solution for key technical and people problems associated with transformation to lean. • Explains issues and considerations of implementing lean in own function or area. • Selects and utilizes tools, techniques and measurements associated with a lean assessment. • Explains benchmarks and measures of effectiveness of lean. Manufacturing Processes: • Advises others using industry experience and benchmarks for methodology effectiveness. • Develops best practices documentation for all major activities and tasks. • Trains others on all major tasks and considerations for the full manufacturing process. • Participates in measuring and monitoring new processes and technologies. • Selects and optimizes specific methodologies for specific products. • Evaluates benefits, drawbacks and appropriateness of alternative processes and technologies. Manufacturing Safety: • Consults on the use of new tools and techniques for safety protection. • Promotes workplace safety among supervisors and workers; communicates safety rules and regulations. • Assesses and reports unusual or new safety hazards or violations; initiates corrective action. • Ensures that all employees and contractors comply with relevant safety policies and regulations. Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: • Consults on development and implementation of cross-functional standards. • Develops and uses control and monitoring mechanisms for adherence. • Ensures communication vehicles are effectively informing affected areas and employees.
