Education and Experience * Must have a strong swimming background. * Must possess or have the ability to obtain American Red Cross, YMCA, Royal Canadian Lifesaving Association or equivalent Lifeguard Certificate. * Must be certified or have the ability to be certified in CPR/PR, AED, oxygen administration, disease transmission, and first aid. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS * Must be at least 16 years old. * Employee must possess or have the ability to obtain valid Montana driver's license. * Must be a skilled swimmer and able to pull weight through the water. * Must be physically able to rescue someone drowning or injured in the water. * CPO, WSI, and LGI certifications, preferred. Requirements of Work * Ability to observe daily operations of aquatic facility and its patrons. * Ability to maintain and operate classes and instruction to ensure quality and safety. * Ability to resolve problems and answer questions in a courteous and professional manner. * Ability to fill any staff position when necessary. * Thorough knowledge of the use and applications of water rescue methods and lifesaving, first aid practices and techniques. * Ability to report for work on time, in proper attire and well-groomed appearance. Ability to maintain professional conduct, on and off the job. * Ability to follow oral and written instructions efficiently and effectively. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the general public. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this position, employees may be exposed to adverse weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind and to chemicals used in cleaning and sanitation of pools. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to swim, stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds. When more than 50 pounds employees are encouraged to use a team lift. Possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to use pool equipment; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone; and the ability to see and read instructions. EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK The work week is Sunday through Saturday with a varying schedule. This short-term position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working. TRAVEL Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
