Job Summary: Constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures of various materials using both manual and power tools and conforming to local building codes. This position is titled Carpenter, but Carpenter is just a small part of the job. We do industrial/Public Works, and the Carpenter is an integral part of working alongside the crews and helping wherever needed. Duties: * Take direction from supervisor on dimensions to build and set forms. * Select, cut, shape, and assemble lumber and other structural units using manual and power tools. * Build concrete forms and pour and finish concrete. * Verify trueness/accuracy of structures. * Move supplies, materials, and equipment from one area of project site to another either manually or using lifting/transferring equipment. * Maintain awareness of safety rules and procedures. * Identify safety hazards and report to project supervisors. * Perform additional assignments at supervisor's direction. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Administers the curriculum guides of the District as based on state adopted standards. * Develops lesson plans and instructional materials based on district curriculum guides, standards, and expectations; includes emergency plans in the case of absence and/or illness * Establishes and communicates well-defined objectives for each lesson, including relevant projects and activities * Translates lesson plans into learning experiences that reflect research-based instructional strategies, including inquiries, group discussion, lectures, discovery, etc. and addresses the individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels of the students * Communicates and plans with other members of the staff in the delivery of meaningful instruction for shared students who participate in other programs such as special education programs, CTE, ELL, etc. * Assess student performance through practical projects, written exams, quizzes, and observations. Offer regular feedback to students to help them develop both technical skills and professional work habits * Exposes students to career opportunities in carpentry, construction, and related fields. Encourage student participation in internships, apprenticeships, and job-shadowing opportunities with local industry partners. * Prepares students for industry-recognized certifications in carpentry and construction (e.g., NCCER, OSHA certifications) and ensures that the program aligns with these standards. * Provides individualized support to students, offering guidance on career pathways, academic success, and skill development * Attends staff meetings and district in-service programs (see Policy GCMC) * Serves on school and district committees as requested and able * Is responsible for discharging instructional and non-instructional school-related activities in a thorough and timely manner * Maintains a safe, organized, and productive classroom and workshop environment. Enforce safety procedures and ensure that students are aware of and adhere to all safety regulations while using tools and equipment. * Supervises, evaluates, and provides work assignments to assigned instructional assistants and/or student teachers; works collaboratively with teachers throughout the District; may be responsible for the evaluation and supervision of classified staff * Acts as a supportive and contributing member of the professional staff by participating in group decision-making, and contributing to the development of a positive, cooperative educational environment * Participates in professional development activities to enhance professional skills and maintain Arizona certification * Evaluates, provides, and maintains accurate reports and records of individual student progress on a regular basis; this includes accurate attendance records, grade reports, and special program requirements * Identifies and refers unusual student behavior to the appropriate specialists * Reports any student injury or illness or injury to self on school grounds or at school events to the site nurse and principal * Enforces and follows the school and district approved discipline plan * Is responsible for the supervision of students at all times on school grounds or at school events * Manages and supervises, the local Career and Technical Student Organization chapter, as determined by the Arizona Department of Education. * Knows and observes Board policies and regulations * Advises administration in accordance with established policies and completes all required forms accurately and in a timely manner. * Accounts and maintains inventory for classroom, school and district property as required * Advises administration of needed repairs, replacements and/or unsafe building conditions as soon as they occur * Follows school regulations regarding emergency procedures * Reports to work daily at the times assigned and remains on duty through the time prescribed * Submits and justifies purchasing recommendations to support and enhance the instructional program to the Site Principal or designee * Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student educational needs and progress * Interprets and communicates school policies and programs to students and parents * Ensure Work-based Learning for students through sustained interactions with industry or community professional is real workplace settings * Facilitate expertise in the use of industry-related software, technology, and/or equipment. * Works with the CTE Director to meet quarterly evidence-based deadlines for both local, state, and federal expectations for Career and Technical Education. * Manages and supervises, the local Career and Technical Student Organization chapter, as determined by the Arizona Department of Education. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: * Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing * Knowledge of accepted instructional techniques and methods working with children * Knowledge of data usage, including research, collection, analysis, synthesis, interpretation, and reporting * Ability to do perform multiple functions simultaneously * Ability to do detailed mathematical computations * Ability to maintain confidentiality * Produce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervision * Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations * Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members * Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies * Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response * Ability to integrate real-world applications into the classroom. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: * Bachelors Degree (Preferred) * Valid Arizona Teacher certificate with Required Endorsements or Valid AZ CTE Teaching Certificate * Industry Related certification (preferred) * Experience as a teacher (preferred) * Criminal justice/Fingerprint clearance * Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google.
