About the Position:
Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University's facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Carpenter Shop team as the Carpenter. Under the general supervision of the Building Trades Manager or their designee for Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM), the Carpenter performs a wide range of skilled journey-level carpentry and related work in and around assigned buildings. A Carpenter will demonstrate a methodical and organized approach to completing work assignments, involving a high level of safety awareness in accordance with established safety procedures.
This position is highly safety conscious, works in accordance with established safety procedures, is disciplined in proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and maintains a safe and clean work environment. A Carpenter offers excellent customer service and is always courteous to campus customers while maintaining records and data related to work performed using computerized record-keeping systems. Essential Qualifications
A combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrating the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of a carpenter's apprenticeship program.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. Preferred Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry. Thorough knowledge of applicable state safety codes and regulations pertaining to the carpentry trade, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety for the State of California and California State Building Codes. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Already know the basics of how to measure, cut, drill, nail, and assemble materials to job specifications. Display refined carpentry skills that can only come from years of experience
Install retail fixtures, cabinetry and millwork set refrigeration cases, and install décor packages using finish carpentry skills
By the 90-day mark and ongoing:
Guide team of Assistant Carpenters to efficiently install materials while following appropriate and safe procedures
Create and maintain job schedule and ensure that work is done to quality standards, original plans, and specs, and meets all deadlines
Demonstrate general safety knowledge, wearing appropriate safety equipment, using tools safely and remains accident-free
Within the 6th to 12th-month mark and ongoing:
Start running small projects by overseeing sub-trades and carpenters, and is willing whenever needed to jump in and do the work
Communicate with clients/inspectors/city officials a few times a day to stay updated on critical steps to move the project forward
Show integrity, compassion, and empathy when dealing with clients that embodies the culture at EWBI
Display pride in work and craftsmanship and encourages the same work ethic in Assistant Carpenters
EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
10+ years' carpentry experience
3+ years' retail carpentry experience
Able to read blueprints and knowledgeable in construction methods

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience: 5+ years fixture installation and retail or commercial finish carpentry experience. 1 year minimum supervisory experience
