Built on a six-acre campus with an aesthetic mix of new architecture and historic buildings, the campus is at the hub of Greenville's nationally recognized downtown. The Peace Center venues include the 2,115-seat Peace Concert Hall, the 400-seat Gunter Theatre, the 1,400-capacity outdoor Peace Pavilion, Genevieve's Lounge, and the Huguenot Mill which includes two event spaces: the Ramsaur Studio and the Huguenot Loft. Opening in 2025 will be two additional music venues: the 250-seat Mockingbird (a listening room), and the 1,150 capacity Coach Factory (a flat floor club). POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Director of Production, the Production Carpenter oversees the carpentry and rigging department for all incoming productions and maintenance activities at Peace Center venues. Working in a safe and consistent manner, the ideal candidate will be an organized leader who works well with local and touring crews. ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Include, but are not limited to) Lead the carpentry and rigging department including managing the daily tasks and schedules of assigned crew. Serve as carpenter, flyman, or rigger to meet production requirements. As assigned by Production Management, manage and complete projects including the review of show riders, line set schedules, stage plots, rigging plots, crew calls, and various other reports and correspondence. Advance performances and communicate production needs with the Peace Center production team and touring personnel. Develop a complete and thorough knowledge of all carpentry and rigging department equipment in order to operate equipment safely. Assist Production Management in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance routines and inspections. Inspect, maintain, and repair stage equipment. Lead collaborative efforts for special and capital projects, including the research, purchasing, construction, and installation of said projects. Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time. Adhere to and promote all OSHA, NFPA, and NEC regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all production elements. Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support. Complete all other job-related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required. Minimum five years' experience as a Carpenter in legitimate theater or as a Head/Production Carpenter on a touring production. Complete stagecraft skillset is necessary, knowledge of all stage equipment with extensive knowledge of industry standard safety practices, operating practices, theatrical rigging practices, counterweight rigging systems, as well as demonstrated experience implementing, using, and maintaining such systems. Experience in woodworking, construction, and use of power and hand tools. Experience reading and implementing rigging plots and hanging plots from scaled technical drawings. Knowledge of the needs of all departments associated with theatrical production, including load ins, performances, load outs, and maintenance calls. Basic knowledge of theatrical automation equipment, stage electronics, and electricity is an asset. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Vectorworks 2025.
