    **JR144792 Genetic Counselor Reviewer** The genetic counselor reviewer (GCR) is responsible for authorization requests and determining their appropriateness per designated clinical guidelines, clinical policies, and client rules. The GCR will collaborate with healthcare providers to promote the highest quality and efficient use of member benefits. **Location:** This position will work remote and must live within 50 miles of one of our Pulse Point office locations. **Schedule:** Monday - Friday, 11:30am - 8:00pm CST **How will you make an impact:** + Receiving authorization requests for genetic tests from front-line intake. Conducting medical necessity review in adherence to guidelines and determining whether clinical information presented meets medical necessity criteria or requires physician review or override. + Clearly and concisely documenting clinical review and other case interactions in online database in adherence to our standardized documentation style. + Assisting physician reviewers with clinical interpretation questions regarding medical necessity of test requests. + Addressing clinical questions received via incoming call from ordering providers and triaging calls when appropriate. Occasionally performing callouts to case submitters to obtain missing clinical information. + Providing specific constructive feedback on Carelon guidelines. + Maintaining confidentiality of patient and provider specific information. + Contributing to team projects aimed to ensure case review accuracy and efficiency, such as updating case review processes, reporting issues, and creating internal case review resources. **Minimum requirements:** + Requires MA/MS from an ACGC (Accreditation Counsel for Genetic Counseling) accredited program, and a minimum 3 years of experience in clinical genetics and/or diagnostic laboratory; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. + Active, unrestricted genetic counselor license is required in applicable states. + ABGC (American Board of Genetic Counseling) board certification required. **Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:** + Motivation to exceed departmental metrics. + Active, unrestricted genetic counselor license, especially in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, and/or Kentucky. + Experience in utilization management and/or reimbursement coding for genetic testing. + Experience with somatic oncology testing a plus. + Highly detailed-oriented. + Escalates appropriate concerns or discrepancies. + Works well both independently and as part of a team. + Must be flexible and adaptable. The pay range for this job begins at $34.90/hr, but your salaried offer will be determined based upon your education and experience. The person hired must live in the Kansas City metro area or request advanced approval to work outside of the area and may attend onsite meetings, as scheduled.     Assesses risks, interprets results, provides complex medical information, and genetic counseling to patients and/or healthcare professionals in a clear and compassionate manner. Job Description: Essential Functions: Assists in obtaining necessary patient histories and records to ensure correct test paperwork and samples are provided for genetic testing. Coordinates complex testing and ensures all required needs are met before beginning appropriate testing. Assists in determining differential diagnosis, appropriate test selection, and plan of care with physicians. Discusses testing options available including advantages, disadvantages, risks, and limitations of the laboratory analyses. Transmits information about genetic risks and mechanisms, assists in assimilation of information, discusses implications, and uses counseling skills and visual aids if appropriate. Provides follow-up support and additional consultation as needed. Interprets results in collaboration with physicians or other ordering providers and discusses additional test options for patient if recommended. Answers client questions about appropriate genetic testing and how results may affect other family members of the patient. Collaborates to obtain or clarify patient information and test requests. Tracks and manages items for clinical and research purposes. Assists in summarizing literature for patient findings. Provides in-service education to community providers, students, and other health care professionals regarding genetic issues and testing available to patients. Maintains and updates materials for clients. Education Requirement: Two-year Master's degree in accredited program in Human Genetics, Genetic Counseling or a related field, required. Licensure Requirement: Current, valid Ohio license or a supervised practice license to practice as a genetic counselor, required. Certifications: Board-Certified or eligible (if graduated in the last 3 years) to sit for the Genetic Counseling Board Examination administered by the American Board of Genetic Counselors, required. BLS Certification may be required depending on department. Skills: Expertise in the principles of human genetics, including cytogenetics, molecular genetics, biochemical genetics, and human growth and development. Excellent interviewing and non-directive counseling skills. Extensive knowledge of social, legal, and ethical issues in genetics.
