This role involves building relationships and processes with suppliers, some negotiation, and ensuring timely delivery of quality goods at competitive prices. The Buyer will collaborate closely with various departments to understand their needs, maintain inventory levels, and manage supplier relationships to achieve cost-effective purchasing without compromising quality and on-time delivery. This role will be responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies, driving supplier performance, and ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and supply continuity. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in electrical commodities, strong analytical skills, and a strategic mindset. This position is a fully on-site role and may sit in one of our BW Papersystems locations. Location options are Sheboygan, WI, Phillips, WI, Madison, WI, Waukesha, WI or Hunt Valley, MD. Key Responsibilities * Analyze specifications, quality, quantity, and delivery requirements for assigned highly complex product categories or supply base; determine the best supply source and recommend substitutes if needed. * Develop short- and long-range purchasing strategies to right-size the supply base, reduce cost, and improve service to internal customers. * Establish strong, collaborative relationships with selected suppliers and partner on joint continuous improvement initiatives. * Own sourcing strategy and value analysis of risk management vs. spend. * Monitor and evaluate supplier performance against quarterly supplier scorecards; perform site visits, collect and analyze internal metric data, and require compliance with all performance parameters. * Maintain updated knowledge of economic and business conditions that may affect purchasing strategy; anticipate risks and recommend mitigation plans. * Attend and facilitate daily cross-functional team meetings to support parts flow to operations, provide direction, and resolve escalated supplier issues. * Support product development initiatives by collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to drive supplier performance. * Lead and participate in key projects such as e-commerce initiatives, product development, and cost reduction analysis. * Responsible for site inventory levels, product rejects, and chargebacks to ensure smooth operations. * Prepare reports, value analysis studies, and procurement documentation to support decision-making. * Coach, guide, and mentor less experienced team members, providing training on procurement best practices and standard work procedures. * Assist supply chain leadership in daily operations and may assume responsibility for department operations in the absence of a supervisor. * Other duties as assigned.
