About The Job We are looking for a Business Intelligence Manager to join our growing BI department. In this remote friendly role, you will work closely with BI team members and other business units to produce data-driven insights that help to influence strategy and improve decision making throughout the company. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, has strong analytical skills and business judgment, has a strong technical background including proficiency in SQL and at least one BI tool, is thoughtful and creative when solving data problems and designing visualizations, and effectively communicates insights to drive results across the organization. This is primarily an individual contributor role with the opportunity to grow into management.
What You'll Get To Do
Analyze complex business problems using SQL, Looker, and other languages or BI tools and translate results into actionable business and product insights
Work with product teams across the company to design, execute, and measure A/B tests
Develop metrics relevant to each business area and help teams to measure results
Create and maintain analytical presentation layers in our SQL database
Design dashboards and reports for partner teams in Looker
Build models and data processes used to drive important business decisions
Create compelling visualizations and presentations
Present findings and make recommendations to management and stakeholders
What You Bring to the Table
Must have at least 3+ yrs. of relevant work experience in BI analytics in a b2c environment. Preferably subscription based
Must have 2+ yrs. experience with SQL
Ability to tell a story using data, make actionable recommendations, and drive changes that improve the business
Strong business judgment and entrepreneurial drive
High attention to detail and ability to balance multiple priorities
Prior experience using Looker, Tableau, Excel, or other BI tools is preferred
Prior experience with any of the following are all nice-to-haves: A/B testing, subscription businesses, marketing-driven businesses, product analytics, web analytics, or database management
Must have experience with marketing attribution models: Demonstrated ability to build, implement, and analyze marketing attribution models to measure the effectiveness of marketing channels and campaigns

Job Description
UMKC is seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Specialist for International Affairs. This is a new position designed to expand the international capacity of the university and increase the effectiveness of international-related units. This role will routinely work with faculty and staff from the following departments: International Affairs, Admissions, Marketing and Communications, Academic Affairs, Academic Units (all academic colleges), and the School of Graduate Studies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide direct support to the International Affairs office for data-related needs. This will include applying data analytics to sharpen recruitment and yield strategies, evaluating programs and partnerships to enhance student experiences and persistence, and serve as data liaison between the International Affairs office and the rest of campus in coordinating data projects.
* Develop subject matter expertise in the data elements, processes, and cycles used by the offices served to provide proactive assistance to the completion of reoccurring tasks. This will include drafting compliance and summary reports, quality checking communication channels, Chatbots, and dashboards, and interfacing with the suite of office software including Terra Dotta, Peoplesoft, Slate, and SEVIS.

The individual in this position interfaces with various functional teams as required to support the BI solution delivery. They proactively identify needs or issues, develop strategies, and propose/implement technical and process solutions. The Senior BI Developer leads large, complex or specialized projects and is the subject matter expert for the most complex BI solutions with responsibility for mentoring and training all levels of BI developers as well as customers.
The Senior BI Developer interprets internal or external business issues and recommends best practices. They adapt precedent and may make significant departures from traditional approaches.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Business Intelligence (BI) Development: This position is responsible for designing and implementing BI solutions to enable the analysis of data to support strategic initiatives and ongoing business requirements. Solutions include, but are not limited to, end-user reports, ad hoc requests, data visualizations, extract-transform-load (ETL) systems, master data management (MDM), and other BI Solutions. This position is expected to proactively approach business units and create the best solution to address business needs and current infrastructure. Care will be given to provide accurate data to fulfill the requirements of the developed solutions. Care will also be given to design and build reusable and reliable code that ensures quality, performance, and responsiveness of reports.
BI Planning, Design, and Implementation: This position will perform requirements analysis, design, and implementation of end-user requested BI solutions. As the Senior BI Developer, this position will work with the Business Intelligence Analyst to further define business requirements and provide specifications for end user sign off prior to development. This position will work with the Analytics Tester and other development team members to coordinate User Acceptance Testing, obtain end user satisfaction with developed product, and implement the final solution.
BI Solution Administration and Documentation : This position shall demonstrate day-to-day adherence with change control procedures and practices and write basic technical documentation for all created BI products. This position will monitor the health and performance of supported systems and communicate potential service problems by identifying patterns occurring across separate BI solutions.
Professional Development: This position is responsible for learning and improving upon the skills necessary to stay competitive in the field and coincide with the advances in technology. This position will participate in conferences, seminars, certification programs, etc. as applicable to ensure continued skill development and technical competency.
Development and Execution of Industry Security Standards: This position is responsible for the development and execution of industry security standards as they relate to BI development and as supported by adopted policy. This position shall follow industry standards and best practices to ensure the security of information, communications, data, etc. when developing BI solutions.
KNOWLEDGE OF JOB
Must have extensive development, architecture, and configuration skills in Microsoft SQL Server.
Must have extensive experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
Must possess expert level competence with Microsoft T-SQL including complex queries and stored procedures.
Must possess a high level of competence with Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
Must have proven experience in developing Business Intelligence solutions (reports, ETL, data visualizations, data extracts)
Must have experience in gathering business and technical requirements and in preparing and documenting specifications.
Must have experience with Microsoft PowerShell
Must have a high level of computer literacy with desktop and cloud-based productivity software such as Office365, Microsoft Office desktop applications, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and Skype.
Experience using a source code control system is required; experience using Git for source code control is desirable.
Knowledge of Microsoft PowerBI to develop and architect data visualizations is preferred.
Experience working within an agile development process is preferred.
Strong knowledge and experience in the development of BI solutions.
Proven ability to meet development commitments and manage expectations.
A proven ability to analyze end user needs, make proactive recommendations to improve existing processes and identify where BI development may create opportunities for improvement.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related business field required. Must have 5 - 7 years of experience.
