Essential Job Functions:

-Safely driving a school bus as assigned, on routes to and from school and school-

-Assessing potential emergency situations for the purpose of taking appropriate action
to protect the wellbeing of passengers.
-Supervising, assisting, and instructing students and other passengers for the purpose
of providing safe loading and unloading during regular and emergency situations; and at

-Assisting special needs students with a variety of issues including wheelchairs, safety
vests, oxygen tanks, anger management, physical concerns such as seizures and other
related special needs concerns for the purpose of taking appropriate action to protect

Working Environment:
May include, but not limited to: Outdoor vehicle inspection and driving school buses of
various makes or models in all weather conditions. May be exposed to chemicals, fuel,
grease and oil, fumes from the aforementioned, blood-borne pathogens, inclement
weather conditions, and hazardous traffic and/or driving conditions.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. Regular
climbing, walking, balancing, lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and
crawling. Frequent twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, grasping, fingering,
talking and hearing.
Physical capacities required to operate a bus:
Leg/foot use required to depress brake
pedal to a pressure of at least 90 pounds and depress clutch pedal to a pressure of at
least 40 pounds unless operating an automatic transmission. Pushing and pulling, e.g.,
up to 30 pounds of force to manually operate the bus entrance door and during an
emergency situation, a student(s) might have to be assisted, requiring carrying or
dragging a 125 pound person 30 feet in 30 seconds or less. Climbing e.g., a maximum
step height of 17 ½ inches to enter the bus and in an emergency situation, exit from an
emergency door opening of 24 x 48 inches and at least 42 inches from ground in ten
seconds or less.
Possess a reaction time of 3/4 of a second or less from the throttle to the brake control.
Continual hearing and not less than 7/15 in at least one (1) ear. Drivers requiring a
hearing aid must wear a properly operating aid at all times while operating a bus.
Continual vision requiring near acuity and far acuity of no less than 20/40 in each eye
either with or without corrective lenses and binocular acuity of at least 20/40 in both
eyes with or without corrective lenses, a field of vision of not less than a total of 140
degrees, depth perception and color vision to distinguish red, green and yellow colors.
Drivers requiring corrective lenses shall wear properly prescribed lenses at all time while
operating a bus.
Federal Regulations:
In order to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) you must be a permanent
resident of the United States or a US citizen.
In order to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Oregon School Bus drivers must
meet all federal regulations pertaining to CDL holders. This includes pre-employment
and random drug screens. Although the use of marijuana is legal in Oregon, it is not
legal federally, and therefore a positive drug screen test result for marijuana will
disqualify a person from obtaining a CDL.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position serves as a temporary placement for new route drivers in training. Trainee will have the opportunity to learn to safely operate all school buses under all types of weather conditions, including, but not limited to fog, rain, sleet, snow, and ice. Responsibilities will include safely transporting students and other authorized persons over regular "to and from school" routes, and on field, co-curricular, and special or extra activity trips as authorized by the school district officials. HOURLY RATES:
Subs for Route Driver in Training: (24-25 SY) C2 - $18.67 per hour
Non-experienced applicants will start at C2 $18.67 an hour and move up to E2 $23.03 an hour after training. Drivers with relatable experience and/or eligible driving credentials may start at E2 $23.03 an hour.

North Clackamas School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. The district contributes the employer portion; there is also a mandatory employee portion. Upon eligibility, which is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position, the employee is required to contribute 6% as their employee portion, via payroll deduction. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.

Job Purpose Statement/s:
The position of substitute bus driver operates school buses and/or other District vehicles when contracted drivers cannot. Sub drivers transport students to and from school and related activities in a safe, timely, and economical manner.

Ability to successfully complete classroom and on-the, road vehicle operation training and defensive driving training.
Must hold a current recognized first aid card or be willing to obtain same if directed by the district under ORS 342.664 (2).
Certificates and Licenses:
Must have a current Oregon driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
Possess and maintain an appropriate and valid Oregon Class B Commercial Driver's License issued by the
State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, as certified by a physician.
Education/Experience:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following (Other duties may be assigned ·
Operates the vehicle in accordance with Oregon Revised Statutes, Department of Motor Vehicle Code, School Bus Driver's Manual, and District policies and procedures.
Adheres to prescribed route, including time schedules and designated student pick-up and drop-off locations.
Delivers assigned vehicle for regular maintenance and service work as per arranged schedule.
Reports immediately any mechanical trouble, tire problems, inoperable safety equipment, or other
questionable items to his/her immediate supervisor and /or bus mechanic.
Accepts responsibility for transporting authorized students safely under all types of conditions.
Conducts a pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and reports any deficiencies in equipment to the proper
authority immediately.
Maintains the assigned vehicle by cleaning items, such as the windshield (inside and outside), light lenses, floors and seats.
Reports any problems or safety hazards that exist or occur on routing, such as traffic, stops, physical obstacles, and students (both on and off the bus).
Maintains a safe and orderly atmosphere on the bus at all times by enforcing compliance with District policies through persuasion, verbal warnings, and/or completing discipline referrals.
Participates in meetings with school administrators to resolve student discipline problems.
Completes daily maintenance checklist, including recording fuel, oil, and mileage readings, fueling the bus,
and adding oil and water, as appropriate.
Displays good judgment and discretion in operating a vehicle in all weather and traffic conditions.
Greets students in a pleasant and friendly manner as they arrive and depart the vehicle.
Maintains a neat, clean and courteous presence while on duty.
Transports students, teachers and other authorized persons on special trips and activity trips in or outside
of the District.
Participates in periodic in-service training.
Provides assistance to students with special transportation needs.
Maintains a positive and effective working relationship with staff and students.
Language Skills:

Have the ability to operate a large school bus in a safe and lawful manner during varying weather, road and traffic conditions; and to recognize when conditions are unsafe for bus operation. Have the ability to learn specific bus routes, complete scheduled routes in a timely manner, and adjust to periodic changes in schedules and routes.
Maintain safe and appropriate atmosphere among students while they are being transported and communicate discipline issues to appropriate administrators.
Recognize potential mechanical and safety equipment problems and report as designated.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Not Necessarily Limited To)
1. Operate a school bus, observing all laws, rules and regulations.
2. Drive a school bus on an assigned route in all weather conditions; communicating with dispatcher en route as necessary.
3. Loading and unloading students at specific stops on an established time schedule.
4. Non-driving duties includes assisting with bus route reviews, student list and other duties directed by the supervisor to include fueling and vehicle cleaning.
5. Provide students a safe and nurturing environment on the bus.
6. Report deficiencies in equipment to the proper authorities immediately.
7. Report complaints regarding transportation problems that he/she cannot handle to the proper authorities.
8. Complete forms and reports as assigned, i.e., driving hours, student counts, bus stop times, trip sheets and mileage reports.
9. Have knowledge of proper procedures to follow in case of an accident or emergency.
10. Maintain discipline on the bus and report discipline problems to appropriate staff; attending student-parent meetings regarding school bus discipline problems, as required.
11. Possess a school bus driver's certificate, maintain a good driving record, possess a current First Aid/CPR card and notify the Transportation Supervisor within 24 hours if you receive a citation.
12. Complete and maintain the required classroom hours and the behind-the-wheel training as mandated by the Oregon Department of Education.
13. To be fingerprinted under legislation as deemed by the State of Oregon.
14. Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
15. Perform drug and alcohol testing as described under the U.S. Department of Transportation guidelines.
16. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
