These individuals run biological samples such as blood, tissue, and DNA through sophisticated equipment and follow specific protocols when running such tests. They are also responsible for the maintenance and functionality of laboratory equipment and conduct regular quality control procedures to ensure test accuracy and reliability.

Biomedical technicians can work in hospitals, clinics, or private companies and install, inspect, maintain, repair, calibrate, and design biomedical equipment and laboratory systems so that they adhere to biomedical standards. These individuals also educate and train staff on using and maintaining laboratory equipment, as well as design interfaces and integrate medical systems. Biomedical technicians are also responsible for managing inventory, purchasing laboratory supplies, capital asset planning, project management, and budgeting.

Most biomedical technicians have an associate's or a bachelor's degree in the biological sciences or biomedical engineering; however, an advanced degree may not be necessary if the individual has comparable knowledge and skills. Many biomedical technicians can make up to $75,000 in the US, and the career field is expected to grow 23% by 2028.

To a graduate just starting out, I would highly recommend establishing a list of short-term and long-term goals. Think about where they see themselves in the next 5 to 10 years and how they plan to reach them using SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound). Additionally, if they have not already done so, they should set up a LinkedIn account as many jobs can be found on that platform. New graduates should plan on making multiple resumes that can be used when applying to different jobs based on the criteria (i.e., skills, academic, etc.). Lastly, I would recommend making a list of their "dream jobs and companies" and research the skills needed to perform the duties of their dream job and learn more about the company itself.
