The Registered Behavior Technician performs many duties both individually with students and organizationally in the classroom. The Registered Behavior Technician may be assigned to work one on one with a child or interact with a group of students in the classroom. The Registered Behavior Technician has specialized training in cognitive therapy and de-escalating behaviors. Support can occur both inside and outside of the classroom and the position will support grades K-6 with a primary focus on grades K-2. Additionally, the Registered Behavior Technician is committed to Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustee's policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports to the Special Education Director or their designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred
Active Registered Behavior Technician Certification or willingness to obtain certification preferred
Previous experience working in an education or behavioral setting preferred.
Training in behavior management, cognitive therapy and de-escalation strategies required
Must be willing to work with students with a variety of emotional and behavioral needs
Ability to adapt to a variety of situations and to remain calm under stress

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, the Registered Behavior Technician will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administrator may also assign other tasks they deem appropriate.
Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce the behavioral supports and accommodations in the classroom
Assists in implementing and modeling behavior from behavior intervention plans and/or interventions through SST (Student Support Team) plans for the purpose of meeting individual student needs and reinforcing learning activities.
Assists in the preparation and adaptation of instructional materials, for the purpose of providing activities and materials that facilitate student learning and performance.
Implements and models alternative communication intervention strategies for the purpose of teaching students to communicate effectively.
Implements and models social skill development techniques, including social stories, peer facilitation and peer training for the purpose of assisting in achieving academic, social, emotional and behavioral goals.
Implements behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of assisting in meeting special education students needs and providing a consistent environment.
Monitors and records data on academic and/or behavioral information for the purpose of measuring student progress in identified areas.
Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students for the purpose of providing documentation and/or communicating information to appropriate personnel.
Assists in training of staff, parents, and students in specialized instructional strategies and techniques being implemented for the purpose of sharing information and techniques used in behavior intervention.
Supports and maintains the discipline established by administration and BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analysis).
Assists students in developing responsibility for their own behavior.
Discusses students' needs and reactions with the BCBA and/or administration and alerts appropriate parties to any specific issues related to an individual student especially concerning behavior.
Assists as directed by the BCBA and/or administration in the effort to successfully maintain students with behavioral needs in an inclusion setting.
Respects the confidentiality of the teacher, students and parents.
Maintains a working knowledge of school routines, emergency procedures and school discipline policy.
As needed - Monitors and directs students in the hallways, in the cafeteria during lunch and in the playground/classroom during recess to ensure safety and appropriate student behavior according to ACS standards. Is aware of students known to elope from classrooms and supports classroom teachers in monitoring identified students.
Covers any other assignments as requested by the BCBA or administration.

The Special Education Director will incorporate feedback from the BCBA and/or administration on the performance of the Registered Behavior Technician into the evaluation as appropriate.

Sessions take place Monday through Friday, anywhere from 8am-6:30pm

Qualifications
