The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am until 3:00 pm, and is weather dependent. GENERAL PURPOSE The Summer Bridge Crew position, under supervision, performs maintenance and repair work to bridges. A position in this class works in light masonry, brush cutting, curb painting, and other light duty construction methods. Work includes the operation of small engine power equipment, and may include work at higher or lower level on an incidental basis. SUPERVISION RECEIVED This position reports directly to the Bridge Superintendent and/or Public Works Director. May be indirectly supervised by full-time Bridge Division employees. SUPERVISION EXERCISED This position is not responsible for the supervision of other employees or functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION Follows standard safety practices, including safeguarding bridge users. Finishes job to ensure proper operation and conformance to accepted standards, or refers to higher level personnel. Operates specialized and general equipment such as mowers, lights, backpack blowers, weedwackers, painting materials, and small mechanical tools. Makes repairs to structural components such as pavement and bridges. Services or repairs masonry walls, bridge decks , sidewalks, and other related bridge elements. May tour assigned area to identify needed repairs and/or check general status of facilities. Operates air compressors, jack hammers, and similar small maintenance or small construction equipment. Performs preventive maintenance of such equipment. Assists other trades personnel and performs such work on an as needed basis. * An employee assigned to this title shall perform a majority, but may not perform all, of the duties listed in this . Mechanic's tools including jacks, hydraulic lifts, air tools, and other tools required for minor repairs and routine maintenance. Maintenance of masonry tools and equipment, and cleaning of painting equipment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
