Primary Duties and Responsibilities
* Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
* Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
* Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
* Assists customers by: (examples include)

* Operates as a lead with bakery clerks.
* Prioritizes orders as per customer and department manager request; checks orders (not only special orders, but future orders for the day).
* Proofs necessary items.
* Pulls product from the freezer or the cooler.
* Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is always clean and neat.
* Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
* Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.
* Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
* Orders supplies and merchandise items for the department (except cake decorating items) as directed by the bakery manager.
* Reviews current product on the shelf, re-merchandises the shelf, and throws away or recycles outdated products.
* Writes the department schedule and ensures employees are at work, on time, and finds replacements when necessary, in bakery manager's absence.
* Assists in other areas of store as needed.
* Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

* Must have the ability to solve practical problems; variety of variables with limited standardization; interpret instructions
* Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages

Education and Experience
High school or equivalent experience (department training helpful) and over six months up to one year of similar or related experience.
Physical Requirements
* Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
* Visual requirements include vision from more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision

Working Conditions
This position is continually exposed to flour, noise, and temperature extremes. There is frequent exposure to dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, and occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals/solvents. This is a fast paced work environment with significant pressure.

Who are we?
Zingerman's Bakehouse is a wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school for home bakers. We sell to specialty food stores, cafés and restaurants in southeastern Michigan as well as selling to Zingerman's Mail Order, who ships our baked goods everywhere in the United States. We are dedicated bakers and food lovers committed to making and selling the best breads, pastries and cakes we can imagine. We are real artisan bakers, meaning we use traditional methods and flavorful ingredients to make our food.
Where is the job?
Zingerman's Bakehouse is located at 3711 Plaza Drive.
What are the availability requirements?
We are hiring a baker to work 40 hours a week, with 8 hour shifts between the hours of 6 am and 4 pm. We work on weekends and holidays. We require full availability in October, November and December. (We don't take any extra time off during these months.) Education, baking experience or training in the culinary field is preferred but not required. We are looking for someone who is passionate about baking as a long-term career.
What are the physical requirements of the job?
We require the ability to stand, lift and bend for up to 8-hours, with breaks; the ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly and the ability to work with repetitive motion including fine manipulation of hands and fingers.

Our pastry baking team does a variety of essential tasks. A few examples are:

Who are we?
Zingerman's Bakehouse is a wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school for home bakers. We sell to specialty food stores, cafés and restaurants in southeastern Michigan as well as selling to Zingerman's Mail Order, who ships our baked goods everywhere in the United States. We are dedicated bakers and food lovers committed to making and selling the best breads, pastries and cakes we can imagine. We are real artisan bakers, meaning we use traditional methods and flavorful ingredients to make our food.
Where is the job?
Zingerman's Bakehouse is located at 3711 Plaza Drive.
What are the availability requirements?
We are hiring a baker to work 40 hours a week, with 8 hour shifts between the hours of 6 am and 4 pm. We work on weekends and holidays. We require full availability in October, November and December. (We don't take any extra time off during these months.) Education, baking experience or training in the culinary field is preferred but not required. We are looking for someone who is passionate about baking as a long-term career.
What are the physical requirements of the job?
We require the ability to stand, lift and bend for up to 8-hours, with breaks; the ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly and the ability to work with repetitive motion including fine manipulation of hands and fingers.

Performance Expectations - Essential Functions:
Work quickly and with a sense of urgency at all times
Multi-tasking
Accurately scale dough
Hand-shape multiple types of dough
Must work well with others in a team environment
Must be able to self manage and work independently, with little direction for periods of time
Arrives on time to all shifts
Prepares ingredients and does set-up work - setting up boards screens, pans, and other
equipment in preparation for making each type of bread
Mixes dough for baking
Loads and unloads bread in the ovens
Monitors the proofing and baking of the breads
Works safely around hot ovens, heavy equipment, and sharp utensils
Cleaning; including 2 hours or more of dishes and clean-up using industrial dishwashing
machines as well as by hand
Keeps a clean and sanitary work area
Completes basic orientation training passport within 90 days of hire
Attends and participate in Bread department and Bakehouse all-staff huddles
Willingness to be flexible with schedule
Able to follow through with verbal instructions
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8 hour shift
Must stand, lift and bend for duration of an 8 hour shift
Repetitive motion including fine manipulation of hands and fingers
