Prepare foods according to the food temperature logs and follow cooking instructions. Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe, using variety of kitchen utensils and equipment. Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients in merchandise. Check product quality to ensure freshness. Review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action. Properly use kitchen equipment, stove, computerized scale, fryer, steamer, robot coupe etc. Label, stock and inventory department merchandise. Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager. Understand the store's layout and be able to locate products when requested by customer. Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads. Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products. Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions note any discrepancies in inventory. Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained. Promote trust and respect among associates. Prepare a wide variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread etc. following traditional and modern recipes Create new and exciting desserts to renew our menus and engage the interest of customers Decorate pastries using different icings, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and make appropriate orders within budget Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking Guide and motivate pastry assistants and bakers to work more efficiently Identify staffing needs and help recruit and train personnel Maintain a lean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety standards Requirements Proven experience as Pastry Chef, baker or relevant role Great attention to detail and creativity Organizing and leadership skills Willingness to replenish professional knowledge In depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation and baking techniques and nutrition Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.) following recipe & procedures that are already establish not changing recipe if item has been a approved already
