Job Description Readiness & Medical Solutions Scientists/Principal Investigators (PIs) at SoarTech lead research, development and transition activities in the area of Medical Science & Technology (S&T) through the use of artificial intelligence, human behavior modeling, natural language processing, machine learning, multi-agent systems, deep learning, agent-based social simulation, data analytics, intelligent user interfaces, complex adaptive systems, decision support systems, learning technologies, augmented reality, virtual reality, simulation, robotics, data fusion, and/or game development. Activities in this area include developing and executing new concepts for addressing some of the most challenging issues faced in the Military Healthcare System (MHS) as well as helping in proposals, and leading the execution of projects including research outcomes, engineering accomplishments, transition, and budget oversight. This position requires personal initiative to accomplish technological innovation and creativity in support of new business development and project execution and knowledge specific to the DOD MHS. This position serves as the primary liaison with research sponsors. Duties and Responsibilities Generate ideas and concepts (collaborating with others, both within and outside the company), to develop successful proposals for work within the MHS that align with SoarTech's strategic mission of developing human-centered artificial intelligence solutions for the military's toughest problems. Act in the capacity of Principal Investigator. This requires executing projects on time and within budget. This includes allocation of resources, ensuring delivery dates are met, and quality of work product meets customer needs and requirements. Collaborate with others in the translation of medical S&T into engineering practice, the development of project strategy, and the implementation and execution of goals and objectives for research programs. Provide leadership and coordination of staff supporting medical S&T projects and to contribute to existing projects as a technical contributor. Stay current in areas of relevant research through reviews of the literature and participation in industry-wide forums and discussions. Research Scientists disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publications, presentations at scientific and community meetings, seminars and other venues. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Experience PhD or equivalent level experience in computer science, artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomy, or other relevant or related field. Minimum 3 years' experience as DoD RDT&E Principal Investigator. Good communication skills, including facilitation, negotiation, and collaboration. He/she will participate in Industry, Government (NIH, DOD, FDOH etc.), and/or other nonprofit organization-sponsored and investigator-initiated research aligned with the strategic scientific goals of AHRI. Potential research focus areas are complementary to the research interests of AHRI principal investigators (eg., skeletal muscle and adipose tissue metabolism, cardiovascular pathophysiology, cancer genomics and metabolism, neuroscience, orthopedics). The required skill set is tailored to each specific Research Scientist position ranging from basic “wet lab” skills and expertise, cell culture, mass spectrometry, imaging, microscopy, “omics” platforms, data analysis, genetic lesion assessments and appropriateness for clinical trials, and bioinformatics. With direction of the Scientific Director and/or overseeing Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Scientist will develop a research program and implement projects in their field of expertise. The Research Scientist will provide guidance and material assistance to staff, scientists, clinicians and clinical operations teams in the performance of research directed tasks. The Research Scientist will ensure that their research activities are performed in compliance with all AdventHealth, local, state, and federal laws, policies and procedures. The value you'll bring to the team\: Devise and implement research proposals, protocols and procedures. Analyze clinical and research data sets often in collaboration with other Research Scientists, Pathologists, Biostatisticians, AHRI Investigators and AdventHealth clinicians. Prepare study reports and scholarly manuscripts to communicate research results to AHRI team members and the broader scientific community. Support data collection, processing and analytical procedures performed by clinical and research staff (including but not limited to basic and translational laboratory investigations, clinical studies, and activities carried out by the clinical research unit and research cores). Cultivate external academic, pharmaceutical and vendor-based research collaborations. Provide subject matter expertise to members of the research team. Prepare and provide scientific presentations to clinicians, tumor boards, clinical and research staff and the external scientific community. Participate in the preparation of research grant applications. May perform any of the following duties depending on the specific Research Scientist position: Develop novel analytics for studying the pathophysiology of human disease Collect and store tissues samples and biospecimens Coordinate and perform tissue and biospecimen analysis using biochemical, cell culture “Omics platform” assay techniques. Conduct analysis of participant behavior in clinical studies. Perform imaging procedures (pre-clinical, clinical, neuroimaging, spectroscopy, imaging data processing). Coordinate data and data analysis with collaborating partners and project teams. Conduct analysis of behavior and brain health changes influenced by pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical approaches.
