While we primarily seek a candidate with teaching situated in areas of performance practice including dance technique, improvisation and choreography, scholars with an active research agenda within the field of jazz studies and the ability to teach courses in theory and history are welcome (musicians included). The preferred candidate will have demonstrated experience teaching within the continuum of jazz dance from a rooted perspective where jazz is situated within its historical and sociocultural contexts in relationship to Africanist aesthetics, Black American music, and the values and spirit inherent in the jazz language. We seek a colleague who is committed to helping students become well-rounded artists, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens within an inclusive and engaged community. The ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students across music, theatre and dance is essential. Experience collaborating with jazz musicians is a plus.
