The Custodian is a service level position. In addition to demonstrating the competencies and abilities required of the position, the Custodian must work cooperatively and productively with a diverse population of internal and external customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Cleans, dusts, and disinfects assigned District facilities including, but not limited to, restrooms, indoor and outdoor entry areas, classrooms, offices, stairways, floors, laboratories and other assigned areas.
Maintains indoor and outdoor areas by removing trash and waste, cleaning trash receptacles and replacing liners.
Maintains cleanliness of flooring by sweeping, mopping, and spot cleaning hard floors and baseboards and vacuuming and spot cleaning carpeted surfaces.
Adheres to an assigned maintenance schedule for major cleaning projects that include (but are not limited to), carpet cleaning, floor stripping and refinishing.
Monitors facilities for pest and rodent infestations and either takes action for minor infestations or informs Lead Custodian and/or Plant Manager about major infestations.
Inspects equipment and facilities on a regular basis for function and required servicing and makes minor repairs (e.g., light bulb or lamp replacement, door handle, light switch, or plate repair, soap dispenser replacement, etc.) and arranges for complex repairs with Plant Manager or Lead Custodian.
Participates in the set up and take down of seating and equipment for events, which may include theater, athletic fields, multi-purpose room and/or gymnasium use to include rearranging, moving, and setting up furniture, and special equipment such as barriers, benches, bleachers, floor mats and other equipment.
Maintains a secure environment by securing internal and external entry and exit doors, ensuring that windows and lights are locked and off, monitoring and responding to fire alarms and inspecting lifts as assigned.
Adheres to required safety protocols by ensuring that secondary containers for cleaning and other products are properly labeled, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for assigned area(s) are up to date and followed and personal protective equipment is used.
Maintains appropriate stocking of custodial supplies, replenishes soap, towel and toilet paper dispenser in restrooms and informs Plant Manager and/or Lead Custodian about supply shortages.
Informs Lead, Plant Manager, and/or assigned administrator about work activities, unanticipated occurrences.
Performs other duties as assigned that support the objectives of the position.
Knowledge and Skills
Basic knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial care and routine facilities maintenance.
Basic knowledge of work hazards, safety techniques, lifting procedures and handling of materials that may include waste and blood borne pathogens.
Some knowledge of chemical reactions and proper safety precautions for use.
Basic knowledge of building and plumbing repairs.
Sufficient reading and writing ability to read work instructions and document work activity onto standardized forms.
Sufficient human relations skill to exercise courtesy when dealing with others.

Lift (from overhead, waist and floor levels, max. 50 lbs.), carry (max. 75 lbs.), push, pull, bend, squat, reach (from low, level, and overhead), and twist and turn head and trunk to clean and to remove trash, move furniture and equipment.
Stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Conducts speech-language and hearing screenings (without interpretation) in accordance with screening protocols established by the supervising Speech Language Pathologist.
Assists Speech Language Pathologist with assessments, which may include assisting with formal documentation, preparing materials, and performing clerical duties.
Follows documented treatment plans and documents results and progress toward the student's treatment and individualized educational plan goals. The plans include instructional and remedial exercises.
Assists in developing short and long range therapeutic goals and treatment programs to meet students' individual needs. May provide objective feedback to school personnel (psychologist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, counselor, teacher) regarding treatment plans developed by the Speech Language Pathologist

Follows up with students who are being monitored in special programs to document academic and behavioral progress.
Assists in the development and/or selection of materials that enhance learning and enhancement of communicative skills and abilities.
