He said a bar had been planned for the 1975 expansion and to “get loaded” was a light-hearted jab at drunkeness. “He didn’t want people to get drunk, he just thought (the name) was fun,” said Cohen.

A 1976 article in the Journal & Courier reveals that the full-size semi cab featured in the room was originally supposed to be facing the exterior, but it didn't fit in with the remodeling of the storefronts underway at the time in Market Square Shopping Center.

Mukilteo (the first, built in 1979) with sweeping views of Puget Sound, Whidbey and Camano Islands, as well as Mt.

Mukilteo’s success enabled the opening of Arnies in Edmonds in 1981.

In 1985 it was once again time for another Arnies Restaurant to make its mark in the Seattle/North Puget Sound area…Arnies purchased what was then the “Americas Cup Restaurant,” a sailing theme oriented North Lake Union restaurant.

A second full-service location opened in the summer of 1988.

In 1996, when all the restaurants underwent décor improvements, updated menus and service packages, Arnies also officially “branded” ourselves and Arnies Northshore became Arnies Gasworks’ Park.

He died February 7, 2002, at the age of 69; his sons Brad and Kurt now lead the company.

Cohen revealed that some regulars were completely unaware of the back dining room until renovations in 2010 to the family side and waiting area directed customers into other parts of the restaurant.
