Position Overview The general role of an Apprentice Electrician is to work in conjunction with Electricians and Electrical Foreman to install, maintain, and repair various electrical components within customer locations. This individual will work with both low and high voltage electrical applications, and learn to work in a wide array of industries including Construction, Manufacturing, Power Plants, Commercial, Aggregate, Oil and Gas, Coal, Wind and Solar Energy, etc. This position must be flexible and willing to travel with overnight stays and work extended hours as needed. The Apprentice Electrician will report to the Department Manager - Electrical and will work primarily out of their assigned location. What You'll Do Assist Electricians and Electrical Foreman with installing and maintaining electrical and power systems Install electrical components such as lighting, electrical outlets, circuit breakers, etc. Run a variety of styles and sizes of conduit and cable trays to electrical devices Pull wire to termination boxes, panels, and other controllers Load and unload tools, materials, equipment, etc. Drive ground rods and install grounding grids Utilize hand tools, power tools, and electrical equipment pertinent to the electrical trade Assist with paperwork and documentation for accurate record keeping Learn to read electrical code, manuals, wiring and circuitry diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and other electrical specifications Learn to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical issues, systems, and components Other Duties This job posting is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required for this position. The Electrician inspects, isolates, troubleshoots and repairs electrical malfunctions using various test instruments; operates electrical power-generating and other electrical equipment and systems; maintains and repairs low voltage systems; tests electrical equipment for safety and efficiency; plans the layout and wiring of new or remodeled installations; fabricates electrical parts; advises in the selection and storage of electrical equipment; inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations; inspects related work performed by contractors; cleans, maintains and services tools and equipment; performs other duties as assigned by administrative personnel of West Virginia Wesleyan College. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: * Desired Qualifications: Master Electrician License or the acquisition of a Master Electrician License within the first year of employment and 10 years of experience with a commercial electrical contractor or an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering with five years working with a commercial electrical contractor. * Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the electrical trade for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems; and a thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade, including the National Electric Code, State of West Virginia and local Electrical Safety Codes. * Must be able to assemble, install, maintain and repair electrical apparatuses; operate all applicable tools and equipment necessary to perform skilled electrical work; read, interpret and work from blue prints, plans, drawings, schematics, diagrams and specifications; maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and computerized recordkeeping systems; prepare standard reports; provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants; analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. * Valid West Virginia drivers license REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Physical Plant WORKING CONDITIONS: * Requires ability to lift 25-50 lbs., climb ladders, manipulate and use power/hand tools, and visually and manually inspect work being performed on campus as needed. * Exposure to hot and cold climates and moderate exposure to dusty, dirty environments. * Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens. The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for the position of Lead Electrician. CATF, a LORT D summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays, is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater. The festival premieres or produces multiple plays per season in 3-4 venues. CATF is committed to supporting the unique needs of new work while fostering an environment of fun and company community. Located 90 minutes from DC, CATF makes its home in one of America's coolest small towns, Shepherdstown, WV. CATF's Electrics Department consists of three Lead Electricians (one per venue) and three Electrics Interns who all work as a team to execute the lighting designs for the festival's six productions. Lead Electricians (LE) are responsible for the execution of the lighting design in their assigned venue and will lead the other LEs and Electrics Interns in the hang and focus of their plot, so a high degree of comfort leading both peers and less experienced crew members is a must. LE's will work closely with their assigned Intern/Board-Op to program their venue and may, depending on their intern's experience level, serve as board programmer during tech. The festival's dedication to incubating new work can mean script and design adjustments throughout the build and tech process. CATF values those who are able to collaborate toward practical and artistically-sound solutions in a time-sensitive environment. Flexibility and positivity are key. Lead Electricians must be able to lift and carry 50lbs, be comfortable working at heights up to 40' (in a combination of lifts, ladders, and catwalks), and have some experience hanging from fixed grids and single purchase counterweight line sets. Previous experience with plots of at least 100 instruments, and moving light programming is preferred. A solid working knowledge of the ETC Ion (or other EOS family console) is required. Position is seasonal, from approximately May 31 - July 13 (an extension through August 8th may be available and discussed during the interview process).
